Wakefield Voters Went With Gomez by a Narrow Margin

Wakefield saw an unexpectedly strong voter turnout Tuesday night in the special Senate election pitting Ed Markey against Gabriel Gomez.

Markey won the election, but in Wakefield, voters went for the Republican Gomez by a 51.9% to 47.51% margin. Gomez got 2,893 votes, while Markey got 2,648, reported Wakefield Town Clerk Mary Galvin. Third party candidate Richard Heos of the Twelve Visions party also got 12 votes.

Galvin also noted that a total of 5,577 registered voters turned out, which is strong for a special Senate election, amounting to 32.54% voter turnout.

"I'm happy that people came out to vote," Galvin told Wakefield Patch.
