New And Expectant Moms Finding Benefits From Yoga

Balance Yoga Studio in downtown Wakefield offering prenatal yoga classes as well as "Mommy and Me" yoga for new parents.

A growing number of expectant mothers are getting ready for the labor and delivery process with help from yoga. In Wakefield, Christy Dole of Balance Yoga has been offering such classes for much of the year and has some starting up on Nov. 16

Dole, who started her business on Main Street in downtown Wakefield a little over a year ago, has prenatal yoga classes starting November 16 on Saturdays at 3 p.m. In a recent conversation with Wakefield Patch, she said that she’s been running these classes since April.

This week, Dole also gave an hour-long seminar at Babies R Us on Route 114 in Peabody on the benefits of prenatal yoga. The classes use breathing, visualization and gentle Vinyasa style yoga to build strength.

For new mothers, Balance Yoga Studio also offers “Mommy and Me” classes where they can bring their infants to sit beside them or play during the session.
