Classes Start Monday at Wakefield's New Boxing Gym for Women

Classes Begin Monday at Wakefield's newest business - Total Knockout - Classic Boxing for Women.

Women looking to take their fitness regimen to a new level can check out Wakefield’s newest business: Total Knockout – Classic Boxing for Women.

In a recent conversation with Wakefield Patch, Tanya Neff, owner of the boxing gym at 1321 Main Street, said that she’s been boxing for 17 years and is a certified USA Boxing Coach and also a certified physical trainer. Neff also grew up in South Boston, where she recalls that boxing was all around her.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Neff, recalling how she would train hard at traditional boxing gyms over the years with people in her weight class, but that that the setting was almost all-male – with women often ending up leaving.

At Total Knockout, women of all fitness levels can get a classic boxing workout that includes hitting speed bags, footwork, jumping rope, and heavy bags.  There is a boxing ring there, but instead of sparring, it’s reportedly used more for practicing combos. “It’s your classic boxing training,” said Neff. “The workout is incredible… A lot of people want to try it, but just get intimidated.”

“I’m just trying to create an environment that is supportive of all women of all fitness levels who just want to box,” said Neff. "All you have to do is want to box and give it a try."
