National Weather Service: 10 Inches of Snow in Wakefield

Weather expected to be more consistent with the first day of spring tomorrow.

Last night's weather forecasts were generally forecasting about 4 or 5 inches of snow in Wakefield. However, the National Weather Service website indicates that the town ended up with 10.3 inches. Weather spotters in the area also informed the NWS that Reading got 11 inches and Stoneham got 10. The forecast also notes that there could be some additional snow in the area later tonight around midnight, but that accumulation shouldn't be much more than an inch. Tomorrow calls for clear skies with a high around 41, added the National Weather Service forecast.

Last-Day-Of-Winter Storm To Cause Tough Commute

Region expecting 2 to 4 inches of snowfall in the forecast, switching to rain around mid-morning.

A late winter storm making its way through the Wakefield area will drop about 2 to 4 inches of snow before switching to a wintry mix and rain, according to Channel 7 weather in Boston. "Now I know what you're thinking. Does 2-4 really mean 12-18? No, no, no. We have this storm in-hand. We've analyzed this frontwards, backwards, upside down, sideways and diagonally. I'll leave it at that," wrote Channel 7 Meteorologist Pete Bouchard in his weather blog. Meanwhile, a winter storm warning from the National Weather Service will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Winter Storm Watch Tonight Into Tuesday

Snow expected to begin Monday night, with a messy Tuesday commute widely expected.

A winter storm watch will be in effect for the Wakefield area from Monday evening until Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service forecast calls for snow starting late Monday evening and lasting overnight with a “significant impact likely on the Tuesday morning commute.” Wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour are possible. The National Weather Service forecast calls for no more than 5 inches of snowfall, although a rain/sleet mix will also be a factor during the storm. According to the NWS forecast, snow will mainly begin after 3 a.m. heading into Tuesday morning, and become all rain by 1 p.m. Tuesday.   Some snow showers are also possible on Wednesday, but temperatures close to 40 are expected both Tuesday and Wednesday. Area's Projected Snowfall is 1 to 3 Inches

Winter weather advisory in effect for Wakefield until early Friday afternoon. Winds, wintry mix, little snow accumulation expected.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until Friday at 1 p.m., although at this point the Wakefield area is only a few inches of snow. The snow that does fall in the area is expected to be heavy and wet, reports the National Weather Service, and most of the accumulation is now expected from Thursday night into Friday morning. The NWS snowfall prediction map shows the coastal Massachusetts area receiving 2 to 4 inches. Along with the snow, wind gusts are also expected up to 40 mph with temperatures mostly in the lower 30s during the storm. Elsewhere, the snowfall projection map on the WHDH.com website in Boston shows the Wakefield area narrowly in the 1 to 3 inches zone, while areas further inland are expecting closer to 3 to 6 inches.

Wintry Mix Expected to Change to Snow Late Tonight

Rain and snow mix expected to turn to snow after 11 p.m. Forecasts still show uncertainty over expected amounts.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the Wakefield area through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. In announcing the area’s latest winter storm watch, the NWS cited the potential for heavy, wet snow and gusting winds, while acknowledging that the snowfall forecast continues to vary considerably. “Unfortunately there is still some uncertainty regarding exact snowfall amounts… but this storm will have a significant impact on Southern New England,” said the NWS. Before tapering off early Friday, the storm is likely to affect travel plans at its height, reported the NWS. Wintry Mix in Forecast for Much of Sunday

Wintry mix expected for Wakefield much of Sunday with highs around 39.

A winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service will remain in effect until midnight Sunday. The forecast for the region now calls for 2 to 4 inches of snow north and west of Interstate 495. For the Wakfield area, the NWS forecast calls for less than an inch of snow accumulation during the day on Sunday, with a high near 39. On Sunday night, the forecast calls for a rain/snow mix before 11 p.m. with a chance of snow after that – only 1 or 2 inches. Moderate Snowfall Expected in Wakefield

No more than six inches of snow now expected in the region.

The weekend’s expected snowstorm is expected to start Saturday evening with a mix of rain and snow, likely changing fully to snow around 1 a.m. on Sunday morning. The National Weather Service has also established a winter weather advisory for the Wakefield area starting 3 p.m. Saturday. The NWS forecast sees about 2 to 4 inches falling in much of this region, with 3 to 6 inches in higher elevations. Elsewhere, the forecast from WHDH TV in Boston also sees only 2 to 4 inches now falling in the Boston area, with 4 to 8 inches closer to the Merrimack Valley and New Hampshire. Heavy, Wet Snow Could Cause Blackouts - Or Just Turn to Rain

Predictions vary for Wakefield for this winter storm, depending on which forecast you consult.

The region is bracing for another weekend winter storm, and this one has the potential to bring heavy, wet snow known for causing blackouts and other difficulties. But, "potential" is the key term here. The National Weather Service has established a hazardous weather outlook for Eastern Massachusetts and other nearby parts of New England. According to the NWS forecast, Saturday and Sunday will both see a mix of rain and snow continuing into late Sunday night with temperatures largely in the mid 30s. The NWS forecast does call for 6-10 inches of snow, but  in areas with more elevation more toward Central Massachusetts.
