Wakefield voters will choose candidates for town offices and for the U.S. Senate race in two separate elections Tuesday. Town Clerk Mary Galvin explained in an announcement last week that residents can vote in either or both elections on Tuesday – and that polling places will have two check-in and check-out voting lists, separate tables, and separate ballots. The following was provided by Wakefield Community Access Television: The line up for two live cablecast debates on Monday, April 1st in WCAT’s Studio A, are now set. Candidates for the three seats in contention on the School Committee will debate questions posed by two press representatives from 7 pm – 8 pm. After a half-hour break, five of the six candidates for three seats on the Board of Selectmen will face the same press panel from 8.30 pm – 9.30 pm. Last weekend, Senate candidate Dan Winslow and former State Rep. (and Wakefield selectman) Brian Cresta stopped by a campaign event hosted by Wakefield School Committee candidate Evan Kenney - who, as noted in this previous article on Wakefield Patch, was still a student at Wakefield High School at this time last year. Election will coincide with the state primary election set for that day.
The town’s election date has been moved to April 30, 2013 to coincide with the state’s primary election. Selectmen voted this week to move the town election from the 23rd. In an email announcement on Tuesday afternoon, Town Clerk Mary Galvin reported that “This will involve two separate elections on April 30, 2013 along with two separate check in tables, two separate check out tables and two voting lists.” The deadline to register to vote for the 2013 town election is 8 p.m. on April 10th. Evan Kenney, Wakefield Class of 2012, credits "phenomenal" mentors and video program at the high school.
Less than one year after his graduation from Wakefield High School, a lifelong town resident has announced that he's running for school committee. 19-year-old Evan Kenney is a member of the Wakefield High School Class of 2012, and he is currently a freshman at Fitchburg State University and majors in film and video production there. He credits his time in the WHSTV program with getting him a summer job last year in a video control room at Harvard Medical School, and for fueling his passion and love for video as a career path in general. Wakefield Cable Access TV has announced two upcoming debates for the town’s election, both of which will be held on Monday, April 1st. According to an announcement from WCAT, the first debate runs from 7 to 8 p.m. and will include candidates for the three school committee seats in contention.
