Break-In Discovered On Walton Street

Woman came home from work Thursday afternoon, found evidence of an earlier break-in. Wakefield Police responded to check for evidence.

Wakefield Police were called to Walton Street Thursday afternoon after a woman reported coming home and finding her door was kicked in. A check with the Wakefield Police Department found that no suspects were still in the home at the time. Detectives from the force were also reportedly checking to see if the intruders had left behind any evidence.

Police Chief: Mental Health Needs To Be Bigger Part Of Gun Control Debate

Wakefield Police Chief Rick Smith told Wakefield Patch Thursday that when handling gun permit requests, police only get to see if an individual spent time in a state-run institution - not a private or out of state one.

In recent days, President Barack Obama and Governor Deval Patrick have both offered gun control proposals amid a renewed debate over the issue following the Sandy Hook shootings last month. With this in mind, Wakefield Patch checked in with Wakefield Police Chief Rick Smith this week to ask for his perspectives as a local law enforcement official when it comes to gun violence and gun control. Smith reports that in Wakefield, police will deny a gun permit if there is reason to believe the applicant is questionable in some way. "It's not a given," said the Chief about applying for a firearms permit in town. Department procedures for permitting are basically in accordance with state laws, he added. Numerous Child Sex Victims Linked To Wakefield Day Care Business

John Burbine, 49, is a level 1 sex offender accused of filming himself in various sexual activities with young children.

A Wakefield husband and wife are facing numerous charges in connection with an illegal day care service that subjected at least 13 children - one of them just days old - to horrific sexual abuse that was recorded on video. On Thursday, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone announced the indictments of Wakefield residents John Burnbine, 49, and his wife, Marian Burbine, 46. The two were proprietors of the Waterfall Education Center, which reportedly offered home-based services to clients ranging from day care to group care and tutoring and babysitting. Wakefield Police responded to these and other calls for service on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. At 7:51 a.m., Wakefield’s K9 assisted Everett police with a school search in that community. At 2:13 p.m., a caller reported a suspicious vehicle in front of his house on Summer Street. It turned out to be a pizza delivery person. At 3:41 p.m., police took a report of a stolen iPod. At 4:48 p.m., a woman reported a lost iPhone with a GPS locator indicating it was still nearby. At 4:53 p.m., a caller reported that a vehicle on Eastern Ave. had not been moved for about two weeks. Wakefield Man Charged With Fleeing Stop, Assaulting Officers

Suspect facing 16 separate charges from Wakefield Police. A citizen helped subdue him after his vehicle crashed into a wall.

A Wakefield man is facing a long list of charges following a Tuesday evening incident that began with a motor vehicle stop and which ended with him under arrest in an area hospital. Lieutenant Craig Calabrese of the Wakefield Police Department told Wakefield Patch on Tuesday morning that the incident began when Officer David Rando spotted a black Acura near Lowell and Main Street with after-market purple tinted headlights and darker window tinting than is permitted by law. Rando pulled the vehicle over near Carriage Lane and Main Street. The driver, Gregory Hampton Boyd, 20, of Wakefield, was described as nervous with shaking hands by police during the stop.
