Event Spotlight: Tour of WHS for Incoming Freshmen

On Thursday, January 19 at 3 p.m. WHS will host its last high school tour for incoming students and parents.

On Thursday, January 19 at 3 p.m., Wakefield High School will hold its last tour for current 8th graders who will start as freshman in the fall and their parents. Topics and places to be covered include: The building – department locations, classrooms, offices, café, library and exciting programs: television, culinary arts, performing arts, Mac design lab, ceramics and photography dark room. The people – where to find the main office, the nurse, guidance and technology. The schedule – seven periods, six days, six courses, plus Wellness and Health. The data – just under 1000 students, 100 credits to graduate, MCAS, SAT and career/college placement. The activities – athletics, music, drama, clubs, school newspaper and much more. Resources – …

Event Spotlight: 'Dr. Shakespeare' at WHS

A Wakefield High School class returns on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The original award-winning play, "Dr. Shakespeare" which premiered at WHS in 2010, will be presented in revival performances by current and former members of the Wakefield High School Drama Club. The spirited comedy, written by Sarah Ford (WHS '11), delves into the world of Shakespeare's favorite couples...in therapy. Catch the play tonight at 8 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts, located in Wakefield Memorial High School. The event is free, but donations are welcome to benefit the Wakefield Drama Club.

Class of 2011: More Than 650 College Acceptances

A.J. Beebe, head of the Wakefield High School Guidance Department, presented the Class of 2011's college data to the School Committee.

The Wakefield guidance department appeared before the School Committee at Tuesday’s meeting to present their report on the past year. In his report, A.J. Beebe, director of guidance at Wakefield Memorial High School, gave college statistics for the graduated Class of 2011, along with MCAS and AP figures and an overview of how the guidance office itself operates. “It’s been another industrious, productive and rewarding year,” Beebe said. “To get where they are today, the students mailed on average four college applications, each resulting in the guidance office processing over 1,200 transcripts. This number does not include midyear reports sent to every college, transcripts needed for scholarships and job opportunities nor the final …

About James Palano, Class of 2011 Valedictorian: WP: What activities were you involved in at WHS? JP: I was involved in music a lot, I did concert band, wind ensemble, chorus, chamber singers, the jazz band, and then I was in the drama club, and I was on the varsity track team and the varsity soccer team.
