LETTER: DIsappointed By Hockey User Fee Increase

Send letters to the editor and local opinion pieces to william.laforme@patch.com.

Editor, I am writing this letter to express my disappointment in our school committee members decision to double user fees for the High School Hockey Team. First, I would like to clear up some myths about the High School Hockey program and the related costs. Wakefield unlike just about every other Middlesex League team does not have its own rink. Wakefield practices sometimes at four different rinks during the week. Most teams in the Middlesex League have their own rink to practice and play games, and also their own locker room where they store their gear and workout and video equipment. Wakefield’s locker room is in the back of their car or the back hall of the gym where hockey bags and sticks are piled up each morning waiting to be …

LETTER: Special Thanks To Tom Maguire From Jimmy Fund Golf

Send your letters to the editor and local opinion pieces to william.laforme@patch.com.

To the Editor: Jimmy Fund Golf extends its sincerest thanks to the organizers and sponsors of the Annual Friends Fighting Cancer Charity Golf Classic held on Sept. 7, at Windham Country Club in Windham, N.H. Special recognition and appreciation goes to Tom Maguire of Wakefield, Mass., and his committee who organized the seventh annual event.   The dedicated sponsors, participants, and volunteers helped raise critical funds to support lifesaving cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  The Annual Friends Fighting Cancer Charity Golf Classic was one of the many golf tournaments that will be held in 2012 to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber.  The presenting sponsors for Jimmy Fund Golf’s 2012 season are American…

Just stop,” or as my father would so poetically put it: “Buzz off!”  No matter how patient we are, sometimes the knee-jerk response to kids being kids is based on our best interests and for our own comfort.  We may unintentionally push kids away, hurt their feelings, insist on silence and space, …

LETTER: I Vote The Party, Not The Man

Send letters to the editor and local opinion pieces to william.laforme@patch.com.

I Vote the Party, Not the Man It's an interesting time to be involved in politics in Wakefield. Two men with local roots - and strong, loyal, local support - are candidates for seats in the U.S. House and Senate. One could tip the balance of party control in the U.S. Senate. Meantime our former Governor is vying for the most powerful public office in the land. His national campaign headquarters in Boston is just a short T ride away. All three candidates - Richard Tisei, Scott Brown, and Mitt Romney - have established reputations as thoughtful moderates, willing to cross party lines to accomplish legislative goals. Tisei and Brown are eminently likable fellows - the type I'd probably seek out at a family cookout or cocktail party as the …
