Wakefield's UU Church Celebrates 200 Years on Sunday

Congregation's bicentennial celebration, including a combined choir and more, is Sunday, April 28th at 3 p.m. All are welcome.

The following was provided by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Wakefield: The Unitarian Universalist Church of Wakefield is pleased to invite the community to its Bicentennial Celebration on Sunday, April 28 at 3 PM.  The celebration will be held in the Sanctuary of the church located at 326 Main Street followed by a reception in its Social Hall. The theme of the Celebration asks the question, “What does Universalism look like in Wakefield in the 21st Century: Drawing a Wider Circle.” The sermon, “Alone Together: the Fall and Rise of Universalism” will be delivered by the Reverend Mark Harris of the First Parish of Watertown. Upcoming Decision Could Affect Town Skyline For Years To Come

Members of the Unitarian Universalist Church downtown must soon decide which of three options to pursue in renovating their building.

Members of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Wakefield will soon choose from several different options for renovating the spire at the top of their nearly 200-year old building. The spire of the downtown church was removed in 2008 after years of weathering and even a couple of lightning strikes. A painting on display in the basement showed the Amos Boardman house as it looked in 1813, where the UU congregation of Wakefield first met. The church on Main Street was built in 1839 and then the former steeple - which also once had a clock in it - was erected in 1859. The congregation of 63 members has already raised about $84,000 in an internal capital campaign. Last week's meeting was intended in part to gauge what level of support exists …

Public Forum: Does The Town Aspire To A Spire?

Public forum on Wednesday, Jan. 16th at Unitarian Universalist Church to discuss options for addressing the church's roof problems.

The following was provided by the Unitarian Universalist Church in Wakefield: The Wakefield Unitarian Universalist Church invites all interested persons to a public forum on Wednesday, January 16th at 7 PM to discuss options for the church’s roof. In connection with its Bicentennial celebration, the congregation launched a Capital Campaign last June to address this and other building concerns. Significant money has already been raised from within the congregation, enough to enable Phase I of the project, the repair and painting of the exterior. However, the costs for rooftop options beyond the removal of the existing, compromised steeple structures (tower and belfry), especially the adding of a spire similar to the one removed in 2008 - …
