The following was provided by Mass In Motion Melrose-Wakefield: Now in its 19th year, the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge (MCBC) is a week-long, free and friendly competition amongst Massachusetts businesses, educational institutions, and municipalities. Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Massachusetts is encouraged to register and take a few short (or even long) trips by bicycle during Bay State Bike Week, which runs from May 11-May 19, 2013. As a part of Bay State Bike Week (http://baystatebikeweek.org), Mass in Motion-Melrose/Wakefield invites you to participate! Any individual is welcome to participate in the MCBC. When residents can easily access healthy foods, they are more likely to choose healthy options. More than 100 residents in community contest have walked a combined 6,000 miles so far.
The following was provided by Mass. in Motion - Melrose/Wakefield: The first ever Mass in Motion-Melrose/Wakefield Route 66 community Virtual Team 2013 race is underway, thanks to a collaboration between Fivi Health Networks and Mass in Motion-Melrose/Wakefield. 105 residents are involved in this first-ever community portal race in Massachusetts, and make up twenty-one teams of 5. Beginning February 5, teams entered into a real time virtual competition, racing against each other as they trek from Chicago to Los Angeles along the famed Route 66. All teams together have walked almost 6000 miles so far! Team members received a free pedometer to track their daily steps which are being used to calculate total team mileage on the community …

The sidewalks not being shoveled is bad enough. But what really gets to me is people who don't shovel out the hydrants in front of their homes. I hope the people who don't do it could live with themselves if a fire occurred on their street and the damage was intensified because the fire department couldn't get to the hydrant. It takes only a few minutes to do it and it could save someone's life…   more ›
