UPDATED: Wakefield Police Seek Stolen Vehicle Connected To Break-Ins

A grey 2012 Mazda 6 reported stolen out of Chelsea has been linked to some area break-ins.

Wakefield Police and other area law enforcement agencies report that they are seeking a stolen 2012 gray Mazda 6 in connection with some recent break-ins. In an email Friday, Wakefield Police confirmed that the gray 2012 Mazda 6 (Mass. Registration # 88ZR77) is linked to a recent break-in on June Circle, as well as another Thursday on Harding Road and an attempted one on Mount Pleasant. The Harding Road break-in was reported early Thursday afternoon and at least one television was among the items taken. Earlier that morning, a caller on Mount Pleasant had informed police that they interrupted the attempted break-in. Wakefield Police Honor Man Who Helped Catch Suspect

31-year-old Daniel Sweet of Wilmington helped subdue suspect in Tuesday incident where officer was briefly dragged by car. Leg injury caused during struggle required eight stitches.

The Wakefield Police recognized a local citizen on Friday for his help in catching a suspect who fled a traffic stop and briefly dragged an officer earlier this week. Gregory Hampton Boyd, 20, was caught soon after and was booked on 16 different charges. Wilmington resident Daniel Sweet, 31, recalled how he was walking with his wife Sarah and their dog around Lake Quannapowitt on Tuesday evening when they heard the suspect's car come around a sharp turn on Main Street, minutes after seeing that same car get pulled over by Wakefield Police. When the car crashed into a stone wall around 158 Main Street, Sweet's first thought was that the driver needed help. Wakefield PD To Recognize Man Who Helped Subdue Suspect

Citizen is a Wilmington resident who stepped in to prevent a 20 year old suspect facing numerous charges from fleeing Tuesday night's incident where an officer was briefly dragged by his car.

The Wakefield Police Department has announced on its Twitter feed that it will recognize a citizen from Wilmington who helped them subdue a suspect who allegedly fled the scene of a traffic stop this week and briefly dragged an officer. The tweet from the department said that it will recognize the man, whose name has yet to be provided, at 2 p.m. Friday. On Tuesday evening, a Wakefield officer pulled over a 20 year old town resident, Gregory Hampton Boyd, for illegally tinted windows and after-market purple headlights. Police Complete Crisis Intervention Team Training

Ten Wakefield officers recently received 40 hours of training focusing on wide range of topics.

The following is an announcement from the Wakefield Police Department: The Wakefield Police Department is pleased to announce the completion of our Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training that ran during the week of September 17-21. This comprised 40 hours of training for ten officers that focused on a wide range of topics including mental illness, substance abuse, adolescent issues, trauma, suicide, and a host of other topics. Wakefield is one of the first departments in the Commonwealth to have a fully trained CIT team. Funding for this was provided through a grant obtained from the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. Recent Vehicle Vandalism Thought To Be Related

At least five cars vandalized while parked in commuter rail spots over the past week.

Wakefield Police are asking residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity around commuter rail parking areas due to some recent vehicle vandalism incidents. In a recent email to Wakefield Patch, Wakefield Police noted that vehicles were reported keyed on both September 18th and 19th. Those vehicles were reportedly parked in spaces for commuter rail passengers located on North Ave. between Albion Street and Armory Street. Also, three vehicles were reported damaged this Tuesday, September 25th, while parked on Murray Street. Police have not determined that these incidents are definitely related, but the locations and damages done are apparently consistent with each other.  More patrols are expected in the area, while citizens who …

Child Safety Seats Available From Police Dept.

State grant allows Wakefield Police to distribute some child safety seats to the public at no charge and to install them.

The following is an announcement from the Wakefield Police Department: The Wakefield Police Department recently recieved a grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office Of Public Safety And Security. We were able to purchase a number of child safety seats to distribute to the public through this grant. We have numerous seats available for installation, and they are free of charge. We have three Officers who are certified child safety seat technicians, and are available for seat inspections/installations by appointment. Child Safety Seat Fitting Is This Weekend

Child seat fitting station is Sunday, Sept. 23 at Wakefield Police Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Wakefield Police Department will be conducting a child safety seat Fitting Station at the Wakefield Police Station on Sunday, September 23, 2012 between the hours of 11 AM and 3 PM. We will have three Police Officers who are certified Child Safety Seat Technicians available for seat checks and installations. We will assist people on a “first come, first served” basis. The event will take place at the rear of the Police Station, on Crescent St. No appointment is necessary.
