The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.
On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked Wakefield High School as the #1,062 high school in the country. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Wakefield's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. State law requires competitive bidding when value is over $25,000. RFP process expected to determine actual value of naming rights for recently-constructed auditorium at WHS.
The town is expected to issue a request for proposals for the naming rights to the recently constructed 275-seat auditorium at Wakefield High School. During Tuesday night's Wakefield School Committee meeting, members noted that the venue was originally expected to be named The Savings Bank Theater. However, state law requires a competitive bidding process because the value of the naming right, while yet to actually be determined, is expected to exceed $25,000. Committee member Lisa Butler was among those who expressed disappointment at the development, citing The Savings Bank's support for the high school in general. The following was provided by Wakefield High School: Wakefield High School will be hosting its 3rd annual dress drive again this year! Hundreds of dresses and prom gowns have been collected in the past two years and distributed to students during the prom and formal event season. All donated new or gently used dresses and formal wear will be donated to the Belle of the Ball Chapter of the Donate My Dress Organization. Donate My Dress is a nonprofit organization made of numerous chapters that collect prom and formal dresses and distributes them to those students who could not otherwise afford them. Any gently used prom or formal dresses in any size or color that you have to donate will be accepted at Wakefield High School in the Main …

Basketball semifinal game against North Andover is on Wednesday in Lawrence.
The Wakefield High School boys basketball team is taking on North Andover in an MIAA North Division 2 semifinal game this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lawrence. Wakefield defeated Lynn Classical 64-63, in a Saturday home game to advance to the March 3, semifinal. North Andover, a #2 seed, is coming off a 66-49 win over Concord-Carlisle, the #7 seed. The Division 2 final game will be played at the Tsongas Center in Lowell with a date and time to be announced. In other MIAA tournament action over the weekend, the Wakefield High School hockey team lost a 6-5 overtime game to Winchester, which goes on to play Waltham in the North Division 1 semifinal on March 7th.
Wakefield seniors heading to Rome in April. Fundraiser at Giggles Comedy Club, Route 1 Saugus, to help defray costs.
A group of Wakefield High School Seniors are preparing to journey to Rome, Italy in April as part of a two-week exchange program. And this Thursday, March 7th, to offset some of their costs, they’re having a comedy night fundraiser at Giggles Comedy Club at Prince Pizza, Route 1 Saugus. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the $20 admission includes all you can eat pizza and a comedy show. Drinks not included and the show is recommended for an 18+ audience. This exchange program is a continuation of last fall’s program, where a number of student ambassadors came from Italy to spend time in Wakefield.
