Firefighters Battling Two-Alarm Fire at Vocational School

A two-alarm fire was reported Tuesday evening at the vocational school in Wakefield.

Firefighters are on the scene of a two alarm fire at Northeast Metropolitan Technical High School on Tuesday evening. Several public safety-oriented accounts on Twitter report that the fire started in the carpentry shop area and extended to the roof. The fire was first reported at about 5:30 p.m. In addition to Wakefield, crews from several other communities, including Lynnfield and Stoneham, were called to assist. At one point, flames were reportedly showing from the roof of the school. There was a basketball game going on at the time of the fire and the players and fans were alerted to the fire when the smoke alarms were activated, according to athletic trainer Terri Pillsbury, who was at the game. I was in a class there tonight. It was going pretty good by the time we got out. You could see the flames inside and smoke was just bellowing out. It was a very orderly evacuation. I would say that WFD showed up within 2 minutes after the alarm sounded. Fire Rekindled at Destroyed Lake Street Home

Wakefield Fire Department will stay on premises.

Wakefield Fire Department returned to Lake Street Sunday night after the three alarm fire that destroyed the home earlier in the morning rekindled.  At 8:45 p.m., fire officials reported hot spots in the multi-unit residence.  Scanner reports indicated the department was requesting that a detail of one officer and two firefighters remain on the premises for the rest of the night.  The three-alarm fire was first reported this morning at 7:20 a.m., when first floor residents reported hearing a 'crackling noise' and smelling smoke.  Upon arrival, Wakefield firefighters quickly struck a second and third alarm, which brought apparatus from other communities to the scene and to cover the stations.  No injuries were reported.

VIDEO: Three-Alarm Blaze Destroys Home on Lake Street

Residents of two-unit house displaced following three-alarm fire on corner of Lake Street and Broadway.

It was about 7:15 a.m. Sunday morning that Joel Sachar and his family discovered a fire upstairs of their first-floor apartment on the corner of Lake Street and Broadway.  Sachar's wife, who had experienced a house fire before, knew when she heard a crackling noise coming from the second floor.  "We heard crackling in the ceiling and we saw and smelled some smoke," Sachar said.  "We got our son and my wife, got our coats, and ran outside the house." Wakefield Fire responded to a call of fire at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. They quickly struck a second and third alarm, which brought apparatus from other communities to the scene and to cover the stations.  No injuries were reported.  Officials are still investigating the fire. Firefighters Battling Three-Alarm Blaze

Broadway is closed as firefighters from multiple towns fight blaze.

Firefighters from multiple communities are fighting a three-alarm fire at the corner of Lake Street and Broadway Sunday morning. Wakefield Fire responded to a call of fire at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. They quickly struck a second and third alarm, which brought apparatus from other communities to the scene and to cover the stations.  Firefighters needed to evacuate the building because of the conditions and fought the blaze from the outside for a while. They re-entered the home at about 8:30 a.m. Broadway is closed.  Apparatus from Woburn and Saugus are stationed nearby at Mike's Gym in case they need to be called to the scene. The caller reported he was assaulted with a knife, according to police. Joseph Ignasius Parcellin, 18, of 11 Bartley St., Apt. #A207, Wakefield, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Sept. 1 @1:02 a.m.: State Police called to report a motor vehicle accident at Exit 40 off Route 128 North. The crash occurred in the high-speed lane of the highway, according to police. A Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light employee reported a possible breaking and entering at the substation. Domenic Crespo, 42, of 43 Washburn St., Chelsea, and Benjamin Mangham, 42, of 59 Everett St., Boston, were each arrested and charged with one count of nightime breaking and entering into a building for felony destruction of property. Fire Log: Large Fire Consumes Car Port, Fence on Daniel Road

Fire Log for Monday, April 23 to Sunday, April 29, 2012: Total calls for service: 41 Fire incidents: A large fire that consumed a car port and a fence broke out in the backyard of a Daniel Road home on April 29, according to the Wakefield Fire Department. Firefighters responded to 29 Daniel Road around 1:30 p.m. for a report of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke showing in the backyard of the home, and a car port fully involved with flames. The fire was contained to the area of the car port and an adjacent fence. The house sustained some additional heat damage to windows, but was otherwise undamaged from the fire. PHOTOS: Three New Firefighters Join Wakefield Department

Three firefighters were sworn in on February 1st at Wakefield Town Hall.

Meet Patrick Jones, Michael Rowe, and Nolan Curran, the three newest members of the Wakefield Fire Department. The new firefighters were appointed to replace retired Wakefield Firefighter Thomas Curran and Firefighters Phil Rogers and Timothy Robblee, who transferred from the department to join the Chelsea and Malden fire departments. Their appointment brings the department back to a staffing level of 49. "All three men are excellent firefighter candidates and I look forward to working with them as they start their new careers in the fire service," said Wakefield Fire Chief Michael Sullivan. Fire Log: Wakefield Responds to Melrose Fire

A list of the calls the Wakefield Fire Department responded to from Monday, January 23 to Sunday, January 29, 2012.

Fire Log for Monday, Jan. 23 to Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012: Total calls for service: 56 Fire incidents: The Wakefield Fire Department responded to two calls for mutual aid in the last week, one to Saugus and one to Melrose. The first call was for a working fire at 1 Mason Drive in Melrose, a senior housing facility, on January 25 at 12:09 a.m. Three ended up having to be hospitalized in the blaze, and 100 others were displaced. Read more on Melrose Patch. The second fire was on January 29 at 1:02 p.m. for a working fire at 20 Robinson Street in Saugus. Fire Log: Cigarette Lights Couch Fire on Crescent St.

Fire Log for Tuesday, Dec. 27 to Monday, Jan. 2, 2012: Total calls for service: 68 Fire incidents: On January 1 at 3:47 a.m., the Wakefield Fire Department responded to 15 Crescent Street for a call of a couch fire. When the Fire Department arrived, they found cut up couch cushions sitting outside. The resident told fire fighters he had fallen asleep while smoking a cigarette and woke up to find there was smoke coming from the couch. The man  said he panicked, extinguished the fire himself with cups of water, then took the cushions outside and cut them up prior to calling for help. He was checked out by EMTs and had no injuries.
