The following was provided by the Wakefield Alliance Against Violence: In the recent presentation on dating violence given at Wakefield Memorial High School by Tom Santoro, the father of a teenager murdered by her ex-boyfriend, the speaker spelled out some of the warning signs for dating partners to look for. Young people are reluctant to talk to their parents about such sensitive issues and may not even know they are in an abusive relationship. He spelled out ways in which teens can question their relationships, in order to determine if they are possibly abusive. Likewise, the parents of teens can use the same checklist to determine the health of their teen’s relationship. When a teenager has a new dating partner, parents can find out …

October is designated as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In conjunction with that effort, Wakefield Alliance Against Violence (WAAV) is undertaking a survey of experiences people have had with domestic violence. Tonight at 6 p.m. at the Crystal Community Club.
From the organizer: The Senior Tones, a popular local Do-wop singing group, will perform at a dinner concert on Thursday, September 15, 2011 to benefit Wakefield Alliance Against Violence (WAAV). The event will take place at the Crystal Community Club and will be catered by the Chuck Wagon Diner. Bob Eldridge, one of WAAV's founding members and its current president, is a member of the Senior Tones. “We're just a bunch of guys who like to get together and sing, have a good time,” he says modestly. However, the smooth harmonies and witty banter of their polished performances, as well as the snappy, coordinated outfits worn by the singers, hint at a group of men who work hard at their craft in order to show their audiences a good time. They…
