Each year, we take some time to eat turkey (or ham or tofurky) and reflect on the abundance in our lives. The Parents decided to share our thoughts publicly. We hope you will too.
Melissa Schools My husband, boys and I are so excited to go to Maine for Thanksgiving! My brother and his family host what becomes a colossal potluck dinner. It's very laid back and the flow of his house makes it so there's plenty of room. Room to eat, room to play games, room to watch football, and there's even room for the customary wrestle mania that happens between the older batch of cousins and the younger batch. This year, the guest count of forty holds four generations, made up of my parents, my siblings, their spouses and kids, and even some kids of those "kids," as well as some friends of the family. I'm so thankful that we all get to spend this holiday together. Having just attended the funeral of a younger friend's dad, I feel …

As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families this week, our thoughts naturally turn to our many blessings. I am very thankful for my wonderful family, my friends, and the community we are privileged to live in. I am also thankful for the opportunity to represent you at the State House. That honor means that every day I learn from so many caring, dedicated residents of this district who are working to improve our schools, build our businesses and grow our economy, and better our communities. Last week that commitment to community was on full display as dozens of volunteers came together at the Melrose Middle School to support Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization that provides new and gently used clothing and other …

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is urging residents to plan ahead for travel this weekend, and offers some tips to beat the worst of the holiday traffic.
Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, with the full peak setting in the afternoon on Wed., Nov. 23 and on Sun. Nov. 27. The busiest traffic areas are on I-90, where Exit 9 connects the Mass. Pike with I-84 to New York and Connecticut. Heavy traffic congestion is also expected at the I-95, I-495 and I-93 exits heading north towards New Hampshire, according to The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Additionally, an estimated 50,000+ drivers travel through the Ted Williams, Callahan and Sumner Tunnels on the day before Thanksgiving. Because of these heavy traffic conditions, MassDOT is encouraging drivers to consider traveling in the early morning or after 8 p.m. on Wednesday instead of …

Melrose and Wakefield enter the game with identical records and similar stats.
On Thursday, Melrose and Wakefield will renew their 110-year-old Thanksgiving rivalry on the new Fred Green Field in Melrose. The Red Raiders and Warriors both enter the game with identical 8-2 records, with Wakefield claiming the Middlesex League Small School Division championship as both Melrose losses came against divisional rivals. Melrose is paced by a strong defense that has only given up 5 points over its last two games and a relentless rushing attack, all while only having one true home game this year as the new Fred Green Field was constructed. Meanwhile, Wakefield has a high-flying offense—109 points scored in its last three games—and an even stingier defense than Melrose. Melrose's two losses were by a combined total of six …
