Discussion: What's Your Favorite Local Business?

Wakefield's got quite a few hot spots to shop on Small Business Saturday. Which is your favorite?

Everyone knows about Black Friday and the type of big box shopping that's associated with it. By now, most people have also heard of Cyber Monday, which is the day when you park yourself at your computer and scour the Internet for the best deals of the year on holiday gifts. And then there's the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which has been coined Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to buying holiday gifts at your locally owned shops, retailers and boutiques. The town of Wakefield has a lot of options, from antiques at Wakefield Un-Common, to clothing at Rada Boutique, J'adore, to beer and wine at Greenwood Wine and Spirits or Caporale's Liquors, to pet boutiqes like Gone to the Dogs and beauty boutiques like the Avon Beauty Center.  So…

Love, love, love ZuZu's Cafe & Catering on Main Street. The food is delicious and great for a takeout or eating on the outdoor patio. The owners are incredibly nice, hard-working people. This is my family's favorite restaurant in Wakefield!   more ›

Sen. Scott Brown: Private Sector is Key to Economic Recovery, Government is a 'Wet Blanket'

U.S. Senator Scott Brown spoke to local business owners at the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce meeting in Stoneham on Friday about the best way to get the economy - and the job market - back on track.

If business in America is a party, the U.S. government is a wet blanket. Or so said U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-Mass.) to members of the Wakefield Chamber of Commerce on Friday in Stoneham.  Sen. Brown said that too much regulation, too many taxes, and too much government is standing in the way of the country's economic recovery, and the only answer to the country's economic woes is to stimulate the private sector to start putting people back to work.  "The most surprising thing I found when I got to Washington was how little amount of time they spend on creating jobs, and creating an environment to create jobs," said Sen. Brown. "They believe spending more money and growing the size of government is the answer. I believe that you should …
