Newly-proposed legislation in Massachusetts could set the stage for certain sexual predators in the state to have their assets seized. According to an announcement from Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, he and State Senator Barry Feingold, an Andover Democrat, have proposed the bill, said to be modeled on existing state controlled substance and human trafficking laws. The announcement also comes in the spotlight of the ongoing John Burbine child sex abuse case. Burbine, a former Wakefield resident, is facing more than 100 counts of child sex abuse stemming from his work at his wife's one-time illegal daycare business. Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian recently lost a bet over the AFC Championship game.
Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian followed through on his promise and delivered New England Clam Chowder to Waltham-based REACH Beyond Domestic Violence on Tuesday. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Koutoujian, who lives in Waltham, delivered the chowder to the domestic violence assistance organization to pay off the bet he made with Baltimore Sheriff John Anderson over the outcome of the AFC Championship football game during which the New England Patriots lost to the Baltimore Ravens. The chowder will go to domestic violence victims. “REACH is an organization with whom I have had a long affiliation. Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian is organizing efforts to improve support programs for corrections officers.
Corrections officers face many dangers in their work environment, but none may be more serious than the stresses they endure from years of working in such an extreme setting. To improve the health and wellness of corrections officers nationwide, the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office is launching a campaign to better support officers who feel the heavy burden of their jobs. One part of the effort will be a conference to share ways to assist corrections officers facing mental or physical job-related stresses, according to the Sheriff's Office. The conference will host experts from across the country to discuss the causes and consequences stemming from a prison work environment. Deval Patrick vetoing $1.5 million in state funding for the facility's construction. Koutoujian requested that his office carry over the $1.5 million remaining in supplemental funding it received last year into the new fiscal year, the Sentinel and Enterprise reported.
