Terms Set For Home Confinement of Wife in Child Sex Abuse Case

Marian Burbine made court appearance Thursday morning, with next one set for Feb. 13.

Marian Burbine made a short court appearance on Thursday morning, largely to set the terms of her ongoing home confinement in connection with the child sex abuse case against her husband. Burbine and her husband John Burbine operated the former Waterfall Education Center in downtown Wakefield, and also offered tutoring and daycare services that would reportedly often take place at the children's homes. Her husband had been classified a Level 1 sex offender back in 1989, which has touched off a separate legislative debate over how to reform the current system used to share information on sex offenders. Under the terms agreed to in court, Burbine, 46, is free to leave her home for 90 minutes each day between Monday and Friday at a set time …

A Wakefield mom whose son was tutored by an illegal day care business where more than a dozen children may have been sexually abused says she checked out the proprietors' background — and found no red flags. On Thursday afternoon, news spread quickly through the region about the indictment of a Wakefield couple for numerous charges stemming from an illegal day care operation where graphic child sexual abuse occurred and was even recorded. @Simon. You are on the right track, more resources need to be diverted to protecting children. The problem is law enforcement focused on ex sex offenders already consumes millions of dollars with no impact at all. There's no impact because of the low recidivism rates amongst the general population of offenders. The rate of child abuse has seen no effects of the Sex Offender Registry because 95% …   more ›
