The following was provided by The Jimmy Fund: Two local Wakefield businesses are joining Rally Against CancerSM to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. Team Optum Wakefield led by Lisa Matthias and Team Interactive Data led by Deborah Bresnahan are “rallying” to win a visit from one of this year’s Rally Spokesplayers, Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks or Boston Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. When the Red Sox suit up against the Baltimore Orioles on Opening Day at Fenway Park Monday, April 8, Red Sox Nation is encouraged to Rally Against Cancer. High school soccer teams are accustomed to scoring goals, but on Saturday, September 29, twelve of the region’s premier programs will be focused on another kind of goal: raising funds for cancer research. The boys’ varsity teams from Acton-Boxborough, Belmont, Brookline, Concord-Carlisle, Lexington, Lincoln-Sudbury, Newton North, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Woburn will compete in the sixth annual Kicks for Cancer in an effort to raise more than $20,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The tournament will be held on the turf fields behind Concord-Carlisle High School at 500 Walden Street in Concord and will begin at 1:00 pm with games between Brookline and Newton North and Lexington and Belmont. There will be a blood drive for Children’s Hospital Boston and the Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana Farber Cancer Institute today and Thursday, Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the West Side Social Club (4 Harrington Court Wakefield, MA). Walk ins are welcome, but appointments are suggested to avoid any possible wait.
