Farmer Dave says: Lots of raspberries this week! Also this week: basil, cilantro, oregano, thyme, chives, dill, scallions, beets, cucumbers (picklers also- great cool summer snacks), summer, zucchini, and cousa squash, the last of our peas - and they are still sweet! In addition, swiss chard, three varieties of kale, lettuce, arugula, fennel, the last of the garlic scapes, kohlrabi and some New England corn!

Berries are really coming in at Charlton Orchards. They will have strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries, along with their pasture-raised beef, eggs, assorted produce, honey, and wonderful wines available for tasting and for sale. Kelly’s Farm will also have a great assortment of produce, along with their own cut flowers and a lot of good cheer.

Also offering healthy and tasty pasture-raised fare for you and your family, stop by Copicut Farms  for some superb poultry and eggs and John Crow Farm, for their extensive variety of pasture-raise meats and poultry, as well as eggs.

The Popover Lady
(aka Cannistraci) will be bringing popovers, scones, and small fruit pies. Have you tried the Asiago cheese popovers?  All their popovers are delectable, but those cheese ones are quite the treat.

We’ll be able to enjoy cold beverages at the market, including ice coffee, ice tea, and fresh-squeezed lemonade from Busy Bee Bakery, along with their finger sandwiches, tasty sweet and savory pastries, cold salads and soup, baked goods, and more.

Samira’s Homemade will have delicious Middle Eastern fare, including  falafel, assorted olives, their amazing hummus and grape leaves and more. Mamadou’s Artisan Bakery will have their wonderful traditional breads – I am hoping they have their olive bread this week!

And, for the convenience of frozen but the taste of gourmet, try some pasta or other entrée from Fior D’Italia (aka The Pasta Man).  They also have really great fresh mozzarella!  And, as always, Globe Fish will have wonderfully fresh seafood of all kinds.

For your sweet tooth, Ben’s Sugar Shack offers all things maple, including cotton candy, and a variety of honey products, as well. And, you can’t beat the cookies from Goodies Homemade

Do not forget to get some DD’s Dressing! This tasty lemon dressing “dresses up” anything from a simple salad, to stir fry dishes, to anything on the grill.

RECIPE IDEAS:  In case you missed last week's newsletter, I used DD's Dressing to quickly marinate shrimp and scallops from Globe Fish (1 tablespoon per ½ pound for just a few minutes before grilling) and brushed some on some chicken wings and quarters, along with a sprinkle of fresh ground black pepper, right before putting it on the grill.  So simple yet so delicious!

And again: Carrots! New this year, our market is taking part in the Plant A Carrot Campaign, a program designed to help farmers markets raise funds as well as raise awareness of farmers and farmers markets all across the country.  “Carrots” will be available for sale ($5 each) all season at the market. To learn more and to get your very own Carrot, be sure to stop by the Market Manager tent!
