Wakefield Farmers Market News for Saturday October 1

The Market is ON! Plein Air rescheduled. Only two weeks left of the season so don't miss this week! Read on to learn why our vendors love our market! Don't miss pumpkin scones and more!

The Market is ON!  Plein Air rescheduled. Be Sure to Come On Down to Shop!

Because of iffy weather and a major water main break that may cause traffic issues at the intersection next to the Wakefield Farmers Market’s location at Hall Park on North Ave on Saturday morning, the decision was made to postpone the Plein Air Paint Out to next week October 8.  This means a really busy market day next week, with the Antique Day also rescheduled for the 8th.

BUT, the market will be open October 1 regardless of the weather or traffic issues, so make sure you come on down to support our vendors!  Between pumpkin scones, a great deal on haddock and your last chance of the season for bluefish, and the final visit of the season from West River Creamery, there is still lots of good reasons to spend some time at the market this week.

FYI – I have been told by many of our vendors that they really love our market. Why? Well, of course, it is hard to beat our location, but another reason is because the people who shop are the market are so nice. No joke.  We have a great reputation.  Now, let’s show our vendors that we enjoy them and their products and don’t always need a special event or great weather to get us to the market.  <grin>

Please note that traffic may only be allowed one-way on North Ave coming from Rt 128 until mid to late morning.

The Wakefield Rotary Club will be our nonprofit guest this week.  Be sure to stop by to learn about their recent projects, and how you can help with their good works.  I think you’ll be amazed to learn all that they do and the level of dedication all Rotary members have to their organization and its projects.  They are a very impressive group.

We will have 17 vendors this week! Here are just a few highlights:

Cannistraci Fine Foods will be bringing either pumpkin scones or pumpkin loaves, and maybe even both, along with all of their regular delicious baked goods!

Charlton Orchards will, as always, have fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, cider, cider donuts, and wine from orchard fruits or a classic red or white grape wine along with a selection of in-season produce. Now selling their amazing ice cream!

Farmer Dave and Kelly’s Farm will have their usual wonderful assortment of just-picked fruits and vegetables – there are always new crops maturing, so be sure come see what is in season right now as we move into the fall season!

Flats Mentor Farm’s attendance for the rest of the season will be decided on a week to week basis due to some longer term flood damage from Hurricane Irene.  No decision had been made by the press deadline for this article. They had a lovely selection last week, so let’s hope they can be at the market this week, too!

Globe Fish will have haddock fillets on sale for $8. They will also have crabmeat, and this may be last week for bluefish fillets.

Sassy River Sauces is scheduled to be with us this week, so be sure to stock up on their delectable low calorie, low fat, freshly made pestos, tapenades, spreads and sauces all made with no artificial ingredients.

Swiss Bakers sent a note to remind us that their pretzels go great with any Octoberfest beers!

Along with biweekly vendors , Pam’s Black Bean Salsa, and West River Creamery (cheese!) our other wonderful vendors, Goodies Homemade, Mamadou’s Bread, Samira’s Homemade, , and The Pasta Man, Kalaidascope Soap, Kittredge Candles, and Susie Kate’s Designs will also be with us this week.

Wakefield Un-Common will be bringing several pieces of Heywood-Wakefield furniture, some antique quilts, Victorian lace, vintage jewelry and all sorts of little treasures. The Queen’s Vault will feature a selection of unique antiques and home furnishings with an emphasis on items that can be used to serve the wonderful food purchased at the Farmers Market.
