Plein Air Paint Out! (pending weather) Live Music with Kevin Moore! Hot Soup! Tower Root Beer!

RAIN OR SHINE - Come and support our farmers and other vendors. Hot soup from Silky Smoothies and last chance to stock up on Tower Root Beer!!!!

This week, pending cooperative weather, the market will once again host the 4th annual Plein Air Paint Out. All are welcome to watch as local and regional artists paint beautiful landscapes during the morning and then display them from noon-1:00 p.m. in the market area. The freshly finished landscape paintings will be available for sale by the artists, with 20% of painting sales to benefit a new Citizens Scholarship Fund for Art & Design Scholarship. There will also be a special Art Activity for Kids! Paint Out Goody Bags will be given to the first thirty young artists, ages 2-13, so they can create their own plein air landscape and have it displayed at the Paint Out tent. The rain date for the Plein Air Paint Out October 6.

Wakefield’s own and favorite Kevin Moore will be back again to share his original songs and creative covers at the market this week.  Kevin’ guitar work has been compared to Paul Simon’s and his songwriting to Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. We are thrilled to have him back again! Kevin will start his first set at around 10:00 a.m.  For more information about his music, see http://www.kevingmoore.com.

As to balloon twisters, I am willing to bet we will have our Mr. Yarrow with us weather providing.

The vendor roster for this week includes our 6 farmers and 10 food vendors, including our biweekly visits from Coutts Specialty Foods and Kaleidoscope Soap and the last visit of the season from our friends at Tower Root Beer-stop by to stock up! In addition, we’ll have Susie Kate’s Designs, for a total of 18 vendors this week.

Note: Ben’s Sugar Shack will not be able to be here this Saturday, but will be back next week!

Look for the fall crops coming in strong  Charlton Orchards will again have their fresh apple cider (come early – it goes fast!!) along with produce, wine, pasture-raised beef, honey, and their yummy cider donuts. I am hoping Farmer Dave will still have their luscious raspberries if it is not raining, but will definitely lots of produce including beautiful green and wax beans,cucumbers, beets, carrots, radish, potatoes, several varieties of apples including  Mac, Cortland, Macoun, Golden Delicious, Gala, Empire, and Bosc pears!

Kelly’s Farm will have their usual assortment of lovely, just picked produce, as well as their beautiful cut flowers, and, as always, Flats Mentor Farm will have their wonderful Asian greens and herbs, Have you tried their little round mashi-shi cucumbers?  To die for.  Pick up a bunch when you come on Saturday. Great for snacking, salads, and pickling!

West River Creamery will be back with their wonderful assortment of delicious hand-crafted cow and goat cheese from their farm, and John Crow Farm will also be back with their super variety of pasture-raised meats, including lamb and pork, and poultry.

 And all of our bakers, Swiss Bakers, Mamadou’s Bakery and Cannistraci Fine Foods will be on hand with their wonderful breads, pies, popovers and other goodies, and Naomi of Cannistraci say she will have pumpkin bread this week, also! And, don’t forget: Swiss Bakers has excellent sandwiches, too!

Goodies Homemade will, of courrse, have their totally awesome cookies. along with stopping by at the market, Goodies now has a Facebook page.  Let's see how many Likes we can add.  As of publication, they have 157 Likes.  Click Goodies Homemade on Facebook to make that number grow!

Actually, look for all of our vendors on Facebook - many are on there. :)

Silky Smoothies will have Hot Soup this week! Along with their tasty and healthy smoothies, Sherri will be offering Garden Tomato Basil Soup made from local tomatoes. Enjoy a cup at the market or take some home for later.

As always, there is tasty Middle Eastern Food from Samira’s Homemade, including a spicy version of grape leaves. Globe Fish/The Fish Lady will, as always, have an amazing selection of fresh seafood. Along with pasta, regular mozzarella cheese, and frozen entrees, Fior D’Italia will again have seasonal specials, including pumpkin ravioli, winter squash ravioli, and sweet potato gnocchi.

Coming Up: Live music by Kirsten Manville 10/6, a children’s event by the Arts Collaborative of Wakefield on 10/13, and, on 10/20, our last day of the market, come prepared to stock up on storable and preservable produce and food items and get a head start on holiday shopping as we end the season with the largest vendor roster of the year!

PARKING NOTE! Don’t forget!  Really! We can use the 1st thirty MBTA parking spaces along North Ave!   And, thanks to a generous grant from Mass in Motion, our market is now able to process SNAP/EBT and credit/debit cards
