Live Music with Kevin G. Moore, West River Creamery, Boys & Girls Club

Live music, 24 vendors, lots of fresh produce and specialty foods, 5 artisans, cheese, root beer, hula hoops, and balloons. What's not to like? See you at the market!

BIG NEWS!  West River Creamery, who was our cheese vendor during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, will REALLY be with us this week! Owner Jane Parent had planned to be with us on 9/21 but had a last minute car breakdown. She will be traveling with Sandra of Vermont Gourmet Candy Dish, who will be bringing her totally delicious and unique hand-batches of gourmet savory sauces, jams, and chocolate and caramel sauces.

Local singer-songwriter and market favorite Kevin G. Moore will be with us these week from 10:00 – noon or so. Make some time to hang out and listen for a bit and check out the CDs he has for sale.

The Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham, Wakefield Club will be our nonprofit guest this week. Be sure to stop by to hear the latest exciting news about the location opening in Wakefield at the Americal Civic Center. You can also find out how YOU can help support this wonderful new asset to our community that will provide a safe place for kids while offering a wide array of educational opportunities, activities, and services supervised by professionals. As always, we will have our balloon twisting artist with us, and sidewalk chalk and hula hoops will be on hand for kids of all ages.

NEWSFLASH: Jane Hammer of Shared Harvest CSA will be with us next week (10/12) sharing information about eating locally and healthily during the winter and demonstrating one of the easiest and most nutritious methods of preserving vegetables: lacto-fermentation.

If you are doing any canning this year, pick up some money-saving coupons for Ball ™ and Kerr ™ products at the Market Manager tent.  Also, you can order cases of produce from our farmers for larger scale preserving.

We have quite the artisan lineup this week:  All About Corks with unique products from recycled corks, Angelica Tiles with hand-painted coasters, Little Lemon Boutique with lovely hair accessories and hats for children, Trow’s Treasures with herbal products, and Wicked Good Soap with soaps and scrubs of all types and colors.

Biweekly vendors Stir I Up Cuisine, with their amazing hot pepper jellies and pepper jelly cheese tortes will be here and NEWSFLASH: Tower Root Beer will be making their last appearance at our market of the season this Saturday. Be sure to come and stock up!

Charlton Orchards will have apples galore and fresh cider, along with assorted produce, honey, wine, and pasture-raised beef and eggs. NOTE: They probably won’t have their big truck, but they will be in their regular spot.

Farmer Dave
 and Kelly’s Farm will their usual assortment of wonderful produce, and get there early if you want some of Kelly’s Farm’s gorgeous cut flowers. As always, Flats Mentor Farm will have and their beautiful and tasty Asian greens, veggies, and herbs. I hope they will still have Squash blossoms, too.  If you have not already, you need to try them! 

John Crow Farm will have a variety of pasture-raised cuts and types of meats and poultry, as well as fresh eggs, and Copicut Farms will, as always, have their freshly slaughtered pasture-raised chickens, whole and parts, and fresh eggs as well. 

NEWSFLASH: Copicut Farms is taking turkey orders for Thanksgiving. Take is from me. They have really excellent turkey.

Samira’s Homemade will have delicious Middle Eastern fare, including falafel, assorted olives, their amazing hummus and grape leaves and more. The Popover Lady will have pies and scones, along with her tasty popovers, Swiss Bakers will have all your favorite loaves and pastries, and Mamadou’s Artisan Bakery will have their wonderful traditional breads – Have you tried their Asiago cheese bread? Really good!

For the convenience of frozen but the taste of gourmet, try some pasta or other entrée from Fior D’Italia (aka The Pasta Man).  They also have really great fresh mozzarella!  And, as always, Globe Fish will have wonderfully fresh seafood of all kinds.

For your sweet tooth, Ben’s Sugar Shack offers all things maple, including cotton candy, and a variety of honey products, as well. And, you can’t beat the cookies from Goodies Homemade!
For our canine friends, Bark for More has great frozen and baked treats on hand.

The market accepts credit and debit cards as well as SNAP/EBT cards in exchange for “Market Bucks,” and, thanks to another generous grant from Melrose Wakefield Mass in Motion, the market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $10 per visit so all our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods!

Coming Up: 10/12 will feature some great food perseveration demonstrations – see above for more info. We will have live music with Ed Britt and Don Borchelt (banjos) on 10/19. PAWS will be with is, hopefully with some kittens, on October 19.  Something for everyone! And, gear up for early holiday shopping on 10/19.  Every vendor who can make it will be with us.
