Kids Activities, Live Music with Chris LaVancher, West River Creamery is back again!

Fun things for kids of all ages, live music, great vendors - what's not to like? See you at the market!

Bring the kids for some “alphabet fishing” and a “bingo” game won by finding certain fruits and veggies at our market, courtesy of our nonprofit guest, the North Suburban Child and Family Resource Network! The Family Resource Network provides education and resources for the caregivers of children from birth through entering kindergarten and has a drop in playroom with programming, too. Stop by to learn more.

A previous edition said Holly was cooking, but that was incorrect.  She will be back NEXT week with a special cooking demo for the kids.

Chris LaVancher
(chrislavanchermusic.com) will be at the center tent providing live music from 10-noon.  To quote the folks at the Melrose coffeehouse: “His work speaks of love and loss, of dreams and schemes, all delivered from the heart-felt place of a keen observer of the human condition.” In addition to writing his own songs, he plays them on a guitar he built himself.  Don’t miss this class act.

Local authors Doug Heath and Alison Simcox
will be selling the books they have authored about local landmarks, one about Lake Quannapowitt and their latest all about Breakheart Reservation.  Both are chock full of history and beautiful photos of two of Wakefield’s finest natural and recreational assets.

Our balloon twisting artist Yarrow will be with us this week, and, as always, sidewalk chalk and hula hoops will be on hand for kids of all ages.

Even if you don’t have a dog, be sure to check out Bark for More! As always, they will be on hand with both frozen and baked doggie treats. There are always a lot of cute dogs hanging around their spot.

VENDOR SCHEDULE CHANGES
: Charlton Orchards has to miss one more week, but will definitely be back next week and for the rest of the season.  I have requested cider donuts.

Farmer Dave
will, of course, have all kinds of produce from their farm just up the road in Dracut, and Kelly’s Farm will have a variety of produce as well, along their beautiful cut flowers. In addition, Flats Mentor Farm will have their lovely selection of Asian vegetables, greens, and herbs. Be sure to ask our farmers about bulk orders for canning, freezing, or drying. If you plan to do some canning, pick up some money-saving coupons for Ball ™ and Kerr ™ products at the Market Manager tent.

NEWSFLASH:  West River Creamery is coming for another visit this week! Don't miss their fabulous cheeses.

Copicut Farms will, as always, have their freshly slaughtered pasture-raised chickens and eggs. Be sure to stop by and see Jeff with any questions or for recipe ideas.  And, be sure to visit John Crow Farm with their great variety of cuts and types of meats and poultry, as well as fresh eggs, also from pasture-raised animals.  If you have not yet tried local pasture-raised poultry, eggs, or meats, do so.  You will really taste the difference!

Samira’s Homemade
will have their wonderful Middle Eastern foods – even their “plain” hummus” is exquisite, and I just tried the Kalamata olive hummus last week. Yum! Fior D’Italia will have tasty frozen pastas and entrees, as well as fresh mozzarella products. I highly recommend their fresh mozzarella, sundried tomato, and prosciutto roll.

SALE: Globe Fish
is back and will have swordfish kabobs on sale for $6/lb(reg. $8) and sea scallops for $16/lb(reg. $18).

Stir It Up Cuisine
will be here with their amazing hot pepper jellies and pepper jelly cheese tortes.  I’ll say it again: Oh my goodness – you have to try one of those tortes!  REALLY good!

You will find a lovely assortment of baked goods including popovers, pies, and scones from The Popover Lady, all your favorites from Swiss Bakers, and classic artisan breads from Mamadou’s.

For sweets, Ben’s Sugar Shack has scrumptious maple treats and more, as well as iced coffee (and/or hot, depending on the weather) and cookies just don’t get any better than the ones from Goodies Homemade.

We will have four artisans this week, including the first of two visits of the season from EGlassy Lady and her beautiful hand-blown glass items. Also with us is All About Corks, with a charming assortment of juried-quality items made from recycled corks. Maria McQuaid and her wonderful Wicked Good Soap and artisan Jeanette Dion ofSalem Street Beadery will also be with us this week.

The market accepts credit and debit cards as well as SNAP/EBT cards in exchange for “Market Bucks,” and, thanks to another generous grant from Melrose Wakefield Mass in Motion, the market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $10 per visit so all our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods!

One last thing: Carrots!
Don’t forget to get a “Carrot!” To learn more about this campaign to support WFM and all farmers and farmers markets, and to get your very own Carrot, be sure to stop by the Market Manager tent!

Coming Up:
Audie Bridges and Steve Tapper on 9/28, and Kevin G. Moore on 10/5, and Ed Britt and Don Borchelt (banjos) back on 10/19. Drumlin Farms Audubon Ark will visit on 9/28 and PAWS will be with is, hopefully with some kittens, on October 19.  Something for everyone!

The Wakefield Farmers Market runs RAIN OR SHINE (except in dangerous weather, e.g. lightening or hurricane conditions).  The market opens at9:00 a.m. and closes at 1:00 p.m. every Saturday through October 19, 2013.  Please visit www.wakefieldfarmersmarket.com for a complete listing of vendors and upcoming events and to sign up for the email newsletter.  You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter. See you at the Market!
