We will have twenty five vendors this week, including our newest vendor Little Lemon Boutique, featuring high quality handmade hats and hair accessories for children – really cute.

Other artisans with us this week are esthetician Andrea Corkum with Kalaidascope SoapKittredge Candles who will have lots of yummy autumn fragrances, and Wakefield herbalist Sarah Trow and Trow’s Teasures, who will have a new salve for arthritis relief  with cayenne pepper and cinnamon oil available for $5 per small jar.

Our own chef Holly Pierce will be presenting a delicious Cooking Demonstration in the middle tent this week.  Be sure to stop by between 10 and 11:30 or so and learn some new recipes and techniques for preparing all the wonderful fresh veggies, cheese, eggs, fish, and/or meats available from our farmers. Samples always available, of course.

Our nonprofit guest today is the Wakefield Choral Society. Formerly known as the Wakefield Community Chorus, they have been presenting concerts and performing at the Wakefield Veteran’s Day ceremonies since 1988.  Their next open rehearsal period is September 9, 16, and 23.  Stop by their tent to learn more and, while you are there, pick up a copy of Feast in the Footlights, a cookbook full of family recipes or a coaster with a musical motif.

Speaking of books, Doug Heath and Alison Simcox will be selling the books they have authored about local landmarks, one about Lake Quannapowitt and their latest all about Breakheart Reservation.  Both are chock full of history and beautiful photos of two of Wakefield’s finest natural and recreational assets.Help

Keep  market on the map!  Simply go to www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org
and pledge to spend $10 at your favorite farmers market. You can pledge once a day up until September 9.
As of Thursday morning, we were #40 in the top 100 in the country.

NEWSFLASH:
If you missed Stir It Up Cuisine last night on Lifetime's Supermarket Superstar, be sure to watch the rerun via http://www.mylifetime.com.

The market accepts credit and debit cards as well as SNAP/EBT cards in exchange for “Market Bucks,” and, thanks to another generous grant from Melrose Wakefield Mass in Motion, the market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $10 per visit so all our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods!

I am sure we will have one of our balloon twisting artists with us and I am hoping that Gina, our face painting artist, will be back. As always, we will have sidewalk chalk and hula hoops for kids of all ages. Just watching the kids hula hooping is worth a visit. I watched one young person keep it going for what had to have been five minutes!

And now, for the farmer and food vendors!

Again I will say:  Corn, tomatoes, and melons, oh my! This is the height of the produce season. There will be a growing bounty from Farmer Dave and all our farmers. If you are doing any canning this year, be sure to pick up some money-saving coupons for Ball ™ and Kerr ™ products at the Market Manager tent.  Also, you can order cases of produce from our farmers for larger scale preserving.

Charlton Orchards will have their wonderful stone fruits and berries along with corn and assorted produce, honey, wine, and pasture-raised beef and eggs. Kelly’s Farm will have a great assortment of produce, including corn, as well, along their totally gorgeous cut flowers. And, don’t miss Flats Mentor Farm and their beautiful and tasty Asian greens, veggies, and herbs.

John Crow Farm will have a variety of pasture-raised cuts and types of meats and poultry, as well as fresh eggs, and Copicut Farms will, as always, have their freshly slaughtered pasture-raised chickens, whole and parts, and fresh eggs as well.

Nobscot Artisan Cheese, who just won a gold medal for their Eastleigh Fresh - Herbes de Provence at the Big E Cheese Competition held last Friday, is here this week, as is 7at9 Bakery with their luscious variety of cheesecakes.

Coutt’s Specialty Foods with yummy preserves and In Good Taste , with super salsa and more are also with us this Saturday, and all the regulars will be on hand: Samira’s Homemade with wonderful Middle Eastern foods, Fior D’Italia, with gourmet pastas and entrees, as well as fresh mozzarella products, DD’s Dressing, with their delicious lemon dressing that also supports scholarships for local young people, Mamadou’s, with their amazing artisan breads, Swiss Bakers and their delectable assortment of breads and pastries, and the Popover Lady, who makes, hands down, the best popovers in the world. Have you tried the cinnamon sugar ones?  Oh my…The pies and scones are also the best.

Globe Fish will have their wonderful fresh seafood, and to round things off, we have maple treats and more from Ben’s Sugar Shack and the best cookies in the world from Goodies Homemade. And, Ben’s should have ice coffee THIS week!

And, don’t forget to stop by Bark for More and get some treats for your canine friends.
