There is always something for everyone, but this week is an especially great week for our kids! Barefoot Books will be visiting with their stellar quality books and related arts and educational products, and our Chef Holly will be doing a very special Kid’s Cooking Demonstration that kids of all ages do not want to miss.

We will also have live music with Wakefield’s own wonderfully talented singer-songwriter Kevin G. Moore to add to the mood, and as always, will have our balloon twisting man, sidewalk chalk,  hula hoops, and lots of room to run and play!

We have two nonprofit groups with us this week. Wakefield Adult Mentoring (WAM) representatives will be on hand to tell you how you can be a mentor to a Wakefield student by spending just one hour a week with them during school hours. Along with one-on-one support, WAM also provides financial incentives to young people who stay in the program for at least three years and have been accepted into a secondary education program. See www.wakefieldadultmentors.org for more information.

Also with us this week is Refugee Immigration Ministry (RIM), a non-profit, interfaith organization whose volunteers help provide entree for clients into the wider community via assistance with housing, job training, instruction in English, and more. See www.r-i-m.net for more information. Be sure to stop by to learn about the good works of both our nonprofit guests.

As we come to the end of National Farmers Market Week, you can help get our market on the map!  Simply go to www.lovemyfarmersmarket.org and pledge to spend $10 at your favorite farmers market. You can pledge once a day up until September 9. As of Thursday morning, we were #39 in the top 100 in the country. To learn more about National Farmers Market Week and how farmers markets contribute to our local economy, see the links about it at wakefieldfarmersmarket.com.

NEWSFLASH:  If you missed Stir It Up Cuisine last night on Lifetime's Supermarket Superstar, be sure to watch the rerun via http://www.mylifetime.com.

The market accepts credit and debit cards as well as SNAP/EBT cards in exchange for “Market Bucks,” and, thanks to another generous grant from Melrose Wakefield Mass in Motion, our market will match SNAP/EBT purchases up to $10 per visit so all our neighbors can afford to eat healthy local foods!  Just come to the Market Manager tent to swipe your CC or EBT card.

All About Corks will be back again this week. If you missed them during their last visit, you will be charmed by the variety of items that artisan Beverly Short, whose work has been featured in a number of juried art shows, makes from recycled corks!

Salem Street Beadery will be also be back with handcrafted jewelry, dream catchers , wind chimes, and more. To quote owner and artisan Jeanette Dion: “I have been creating many new items with all the sea glass, sea shells, sea stones & drift wood that I have been collecting along our local beaches.” For a sneak preview, visit www.salemstreetbeadery.com

To round out the artisan section, Maria McQuaid and her wonderful Wicked Good Soap will be with us, as well.

And now, on to the food!

The entire weekly list from Farmer Dave can be accessed at the end of the 2013 Season Vendor page on our website, but in general, they have just about anything you’d want!  Kelly’s Farm will also have all the typical August bounty along with their beautiful fresh-cut flowers.
