St. Joseph's Wins Division Championship Game

St. Joseph School 5th and 6th graders finished season with undefeated record.

Saturday night Malden Catholic High School hosted Saint Joseph School Wakefield (SJS) as they competed for and won the championship title of Junior Division for the Middlesex Catholic Elementary School Basketball League against Revere’s Immaculate Conception (IC) with a 38 -25 win.

The SJS 5th and 6th grade boys’ team finished the season with an undefeated record this season.  Sixth graders Joe Greenwood and Nick Scarpello lead the way for the Hawks offensively while Casey Brackett, Frank Cancelliere, Matt Farrell and Sean Clark all had key defensive plays to limit IC’s scoring.  Fifth graders Dan LaMonica, Alex Pacy and Matt Fish all had a great night and each assisted the offense and defense with some key plays including a basket by Dan LaMonica.  Coached by Frank Greenwood, Paul Cancelliere and Chris Brackett, the SJS 5th-6th Grade Boys will now represent the MCESBL in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston Tournament.

The Middlesex Catholic Elementary School Basketball League is governed by the philosophy that the sport of basketball should be fun, developmentally appropriate and allow each individual to participate to the full extent of his ability.  Equal emphasis is placed on the overall development of each player including self-respect, respect for other players and teams, teamwork to achieve objectives as well as fair and honest competition.
