Take the Lake 5K Run & Walk

Take the Lake brings together athletes, survivors, families and friends in a fun and uplifting run/stroll to support those affected by cancer. Take the Lake was created and is dedicated to Janice (Mignosa) Frye who traced her roots to Wakefield. A Wakefield High School Class of 1980 scholar and thespian, Janice lost her battle with cancer in 1999 and her family created the run/walk to pay tribute to her and the organizations that reach out and help the countless local families afflicted by this insidious disease.

Registration prior to July 1st is $22 for runners, $20 for walkers.  Registration past July 1st, up to and including the day of the race, is $25. Entry fee includes: professional chip-timed scoring;                   awards to the top 3 male and female runners in each division; T-shirts to all participants who register before July 1st, and water along the course and refreshments after the race.

To build on last year’s introduction of team entries, new easy-to-use Team Registration/On-line Fundraising is available to simplify registration and tracking team fundraising milestones. Teams of walkers or runners are encouraged to create a teams with co-workers, family or friends to run or walk in honor or memory of a loved one or friend affected by cancer. A celebratory dinner at Bertucci's will be awarded to the team that raises the most funds.

Since the founding of the race 12 years ago, over 4,000 walkers and runners have participated in the event, raising $152,000 for cancer related charities.  This year all proceeds will benefit the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, which educates, advocates and empowers those whose lives have been affected by cancer throughout New England.
