School Committee Welcomes New GMS Principal

Wakefield Public Schools will welcome a new educational leader on July 1st: Mark C. Bedrosian, who will serve as principal at Galvin Middle School.

Bedrosian comes to Wakefield from Gloucester, where his most current role was dean of academic affairs at Gloucester High School. Prior to that, he served as assistant principal at the high school and assistant principal at the Ralph B. O'Maley Middle School in Gloucester.

"When I was checking Mark’s references, as soon as I mentioned his name everyone said, 'You could not get a more solid educator and person,'" said Superintendent Joan Landers at Monday night's School Committee meeting. "And I called people from your past, way back, from when you started teaching and everyone had the same intitial reaction, which was you’re very fortunate."

Bedrosian said he was happy to get started in Wakefield.

"I look forward to working with the staff at the Galvin, and I'm excited to meet with the community," he said. "I'll be going next week to the fourth grade move up night and my wife and I will be coming down to the art show on the 11th. I just really want to get to know people."

Bedrosian also added that he's joined the Galvinize Wakefield movement, a community organization in Wakefield that is dedicated to bringing a brand new middle school to town.

"It looks like it has momentum, and I hope the town sees it's an opportunity for folks to invest in the future of the town," he said.

School Committee Vice Chairman Tom Markham said he was also looking forward to having Bedrosian join the Wakefield community.

"Wakefield's gain will be Gloucester's loss," he said. "Thank you for taking on this opportunity."

Superintendent Landers also noted Bedrosian's experience supervising and setting goals as part of the race to the top initiative, recruiting new teachers, and the fact he co-authored the NEASC accredidation in Gloucester.

"That will be useful to us as we go through our own," she said. "We’re thrilled to have your wealth of expertise and that you’ll be joining us soon."
