Winter Parking Ban: Necessary? [POLL]

Are you in favor of the current winter parking ban, or do you think it needs to be modified? Weigh in.

Every year at the start of winter Danvers for vehicles parked on the street, that lasts until through the first of April.

This means that any vehicle parked on a public way for more than one (1) hour, between the hours of 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. will be parked illegally. These vehicles will be subject to receiving a Parking Violation, which carries a $15.00 fine, and possible towing.

Danvers residents have raised the question, and we want to start the dialogue on here: should the town's parking ban only be effective during snow storms?

While Selectman Keith Lucy said he hasn't heard a complaint about the ban during his eight years on the Board, he believes the town has an opportunity to do better.

"Some cities in the area use blue flashing lights to indicate a snow emergency and this indicates that parking bans are in effect," Lucy said. "With all of the communication methods availabe today, I think we could get the word out using the telephone via connectCTY, by e-mail, text, Twitter, and even Facebook."

Chairman of the Board Dan Bennett said he has heard from one resident voicing concern, and would be open to hearing suggestions for change.

We want to hear from you. What do you think about the current parking ban? Do you think it could be better? If so, how? Let us know in the comments.

I think there should only be a parking ban during snowstorms as we currently have 5 cars and limited space! Also trying to shuffle cars around in the morning as who needs to leave first, etc is annoying and time consuming!
