Tree Approved In Memory of WHS Grad Ben Mohla

Selectmen approve tree at Wakefield High School in memory of 2010 grad who died in accident in Vermont last fall.

Wakefield selectmen voted Monday night in favor of a tree to be planted at Wakefield High School in memory of 2010 graduate Benjamin Mohla, who was killed in a car crash in Vermont last fall

The memorial tree’s exact location has yet to be determined and, and the only contingency in Monday night’s vote was that the eventual spot be approved by the DPW.

Mohla was killed in late November during an accident on I-89 in northern Vermont when a pickup truck he was riding in went off the road. At the time he was attending the University of Vermont as an environmental science major

Soon after his death, Principal Kim Smith noted in an email to the WHS community that Mohla was active in the WHS Band, was a diversity leader, performed in the 2010 Senior Show, and received the Principal’s Spirit Award.
