State Senator Jason Lewis Announces Senate Re-election Kick-off

State Senator Jason Lewis announced that he will be kicking off his re-election campaign at a reception in Melrose headlined by Melrose Mayor Robert J. Dolan and State Representative Paul Brodeur, D-Melrose.

The campaign kick-off reception will take place at Bobby C’s Ristorante, 20 Main Street, Melrose (just over the Malden line), on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

“In less than three months in the state senate, Jason Lewis has already delivered impressive results for Melrose and all six communities of the 5th Middlesex district,” said Mayor Dolan.  “We need Jason Lewis in the state senate.”

Sen. Lewis was elected in a special election on April 1 of this year to succeed now-Congresswoman Katherine Clark. In the short time since his special election victory, Senator Lewis has delivered on a variety of policy victories for the communities of the 5th Middlesex, including:

·         helping secure funds for the Malden Community Conference Center project that promises to bring jobs and greater economic development to the region;

·         successfully championing inclusion of a Chapter 70 Education Foundation Budget Review Commission in the FY15 state budget, which will enable a careful and thorough examination of current educational needs and best practices, an important step toward achieving more adequate and equitable funding for our public schools; and,

·         achieving inclusion in recent major transportation legislation of his Active Streets initiative, which will encourage more complete transportation planning by our cities and towns, and can lead to increased Chapter 90 transportation funds from the state for our municipal budgets.

The 5th Middlesex district includes Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and precincts 1, 2, 3, and 8 of Winchester.
