Mosquito Testing Finds West Nile Virus in Wakefield

Wakefield Board of Health announced positive findings from mosquito traps on Friday.

The Wakefield Health Department announced Friday that two mosquitoes in traps have tested positive for West Nile Virus, as have mosquitoes in neighboring Reading.

Residents are advised to lower their exposure to mosquito bites by using repellent with DEET, minimizing their activity at dusk and dawn, and wearing long sleeves and pants when possible.

“The Town has conducted a round of truck spraying this month and will continue these efforts as the mosquito populations dictate,” added the announcement.
