Letter to the Editor: Enough is Enough

We write as concerned citizens for the future of our beloved community.  We do not believe that the development of our downtown made by the proponents of Article 2 is in Wakefield's best interest for the principal reason that it was soundly rejected by the people at the ballot box on April 1.

Business and political special interests used poor judgment by pressing this issue.  They appear to be misguided in their zeal to force the project through now regardless of the consequences.  They seem hostile or indifferent to the legitimate concerns raised by many of our most prominent and respected citizens.  They can't take no for an answer.  Unfortunately for us they continue to demonstrate that they know the cost of everything yet the value of nothing.

In a democracy the majority rules.  At least that's the way it's supposed to work.  How can the proponents honestly justify disrespecting the will of the people by saying in effect: YOUR VOTE DOESN'T COUNT?

To disregard the people's vote would set a very dangerous precedent. Whatever happened to "government of the people, by the people, for the people"?  Are those just hollow words or are they sacred, bedrock principals that our honorable ancestors fought and died for?

Enough is enough!  We urge our fellow Wakefieldians to attend Town Meeting and vote: NO ... AGAIN!
