George Costanza Enters 6th District Race

The Seinfeld character is being used in a new Tisei ad.

Just when you thought the heated 6th District congressional race couldn't get weirder, in walks George Costanza.

A new video ad by Republican Richard Tisei's campaign features a scene from the popular 1990s TV show "Seinfeld," in which George Costanza tells Jerry Seinfeld, "It's not a lie if you believe it." The ad then shows Congressman John Tierney telling a reporter that Republicans "are anti-human rights, anti-women rights, they are anti-middle class."

The video ad is in response to Tierney's latest ad attacking Tisei as being a right-wing extremist and supporting right-wing views on social issues.

Tisei's record, however, shows a moderate -- if not fairly liberal -- history on social issues. During his time in the State Senate, he voted in favor of the Emergency Contraception Bill as well as a bill to create "buffer zones" at clinics that provide abortions, for example.

In a statement Friday following the release of the ad, the Tisei campaign referred to George Costanza as "New Tierney Adviser."

In its long run, the TV show "Seinfeld" never discussed George Costanza's political ideology.
