Town/School/Legislative Work Session: The Coventry Town Council, School Committee and State Delegation will meet at 6 p.m. this evening at Town Hall for a work session to discuss various town and school issues including budget, school security, pensions and more. Click here for tonight's agenda.

CPL Babysitter's Training Course: Registration begins today for the RI Chapter of American Red Cross' Babysitter's Training Course which will be hosted by Coventry Public Library on Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Boys and girls ages 11-15 may register with a non-refundable fee of $85. The course includes basic babysitting info and first aid. See the attached flier for more details or call the CPL Youth Services Dept. at 822-9102.

HHFD Board Meeting: The Hopkins Hill Fire District Executive Board will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at 1 Bestwick Trail. Click here to view this evening's agenda.

Valentine's Day Craft: Register today for Greene Library's February Craft - homemade truffles! Sweep your Valentine off their feet with delicious truffles packed in a gift box that you've created! There will be two demonstrations, tomorrow, Feb. 5 and Feb. 12. $5/person. Call 397-3873 to register.

CHS Alumni Musicians: Brad DeGraide, choral director and teacher at CHS, and Marina Ferri (Class of 2008) have scheduled an alumni concert for Apr. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium to benefit the CHS Alumni Association. They are looking for former high school musicians who have remained in the music field either as a teacher, performer or music professional. Did they have necessary permits to build? I wouldn't imagine you would build an airstrip unless you were pretty sure you would some day be able to use it>

Mark, you are correct in asking why this isn't big news. Unfortunately, this seems to be the way things are done in Coventry - "flying under the radar" if you excuse the expression. The residents in this area have been battling a long time to keep their rural landscape. Can you imagine if this is allowed to happen? The noise in that area from the gravel pit is already a nuisance. Now they will have planes landing? Does the FAA and RI Airport Corporation have anything to say about this?

My understanding is that the decision on issuing the permit will be made by the Zoning Board and not voted on by the Town Council. Is this correct? This meeting on Wednesday is EXTREMELY important and everyone opposing this should make it a point to attend the meeting!
