Wakefield Police have located 14-year-old Rosalinda Chavez, who ran away from a Department of Children and Families program on Lafayette Street in Wakefield in early March, according to police.

Police found Chavez at a Chelsea apartment, where she had been staying with an unidentified male.

Because of legal and jurisdictional issues regarding missing children, Chelsea Police had to take custody of Chavez, who was in good health. Chelsea Police then turned her back over to DCF.

Wakefield Police Det. Sgt. Richard DiNanno led the investigation.

Wakefield Police Chief Rick Smith said DiNanno went “beyond the call of duty.”

“These cases can be tedious and cumbersome,” Smith said, “but [DiNanno] saw a child who could be in danger, and he would not relent until she was found.”
