Wakefield Officer Struck By Car, Taken to Hospital

Veteran Wakefield officer taken to area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wakefield Police reported Wednesday morning that Officer Joseph Conway, a 38 year veteran of the force, was struck by a motor vehicle and injured while working a traffic detail at the four-way intersection on Main Street and North Avenue.

According to the department, Conway was treated at the scene and taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident reportedly occurred around 7:17 a.m. Conway was struck by a 2011 Honda Pilot driven by a 39-year-old Stoneham resident who had been turning left from North Avenue onto Main Street.

No injuries were reported by the vehicle operator. Wakefield Police are investigating the matter but as of Wednesday morning had not filed any charges. In the announcement, the department also asked for people to respect the privacy of the officer and his family.
