Wakefield Home Struck Twice By Lightning Last Month

House on Old Colony Drive hit by lightning on July 4, and then again on July 18.

A Wakefield home had the unusual distinction last month of being struck by lightning on two separate occasions.

In its report for the month of July, the Wakefield Fire Department noted that firefighters under the command of Captain Paul Pronco first went to 17 Old Colony Drive on the evening of July 4 for a report of a lightning strike. That strike reportedly damaged the home’s electrical system.

Then, the home was struck by lighting a second time during a storm on July 18. The second strike hit the chimney and blasted a hole into it near the top, reportedly scattering bricks around the side yard. The home’s electrical system was also once again damaged by the lightning.

There were no injuries reported in either matter, nor were the homeowners displaced from the lightning damage.

The previously mentioned lightning storm on July 18 produced a total of 17 calls for fire alarm activations in Wakefield, as well as numerous fallen trees in a span of about 90 minutes.
