Police Log: Salem Man Charged with OUI

Wakefield Police arrested a Salem man for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol in Wakefield on Saturday.

Featured item: Wakefield Police arrested a Salem man for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol early on Saturday evening.

Police said they received a call at 4:45 p.m. to report a blue Toyota Corolla had been parked on the sidewalk on Main Street. Police responded to find a the car had crashed into a fire hydrant.

Inside the vehicle was William Mullane, 53, of Salem, MA, who police said was sleeping. Police woke up Mullane and said they could smell alcohol on him and on his breath. Police conducted a field sobriety test and determined Mullane was intoxiated. Police said they also observed five small bottles of alcohol on the passenger seat. 

Mullane was placed under arrested and charged with operationg under the influence of liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle out of Malden District Court.

Friday, July 27:

9:20 a.m. - A minor car accident was reproted on Lincoln Street. No injuries were reported. 

4:58 p.m. - A caller reported that a woman and a boy stole several items from a Green Street home during an estate sale. The victim said a laptop valued at $200, silverware valued at $200 and binoculars valued at $50 were all stolen from a back bedroom inside the home. The victim described the suspect as a white female with a 12-year-old boy driving a red Chevy or Toyota truck.

Saturday, July 28:

3:09 p.m. - Police responded to the Lafayette Street group home for a report that a staff member had been assaulted by a member of the group home. No charges are being pressed at this time. 

Sunday, July 29:
2:17 a.m. - Police summonsed a Wakefield resident for allegedly driving without a license in Wakefield. Police said they were on patrol in thea rae of Water Street and Montrose Avenue when officers observed a vehicle traveling 43 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone. Officers stopped the car and determined the driver did not have a valid license. The driver was summonsed to Malden District Court on charges of unlicend operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.  

10:36 a.m. - Wakefield Police responded to Lowell Street for a domestic disturbance and arrested a woman on assault and battery charges. Police said they were called to the Lowell Street home for a fight between a male and Karen Bognanno, 47, of 575 Lowell St.. The male told police that the female, who lives above him, came down into his part of the house, ripped a mirror off of the wall and hit him with it. Police said the male had scratches on his neck and shoulders. Bognanno was charged with domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon. 

4:55 p.m. - Wakefield Police arrested Robert Fossett, 35, of 263 Albion Street for allegedly driving without a license. Police said they observed Fossett operating a motor vehicle without a helmet on Albion Street. Police stopped him and determined he did not have a valid driver's license. Fossett was charged with a subsequent offense of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license out of Malden District Court.
