Police Log: Rabid Raccoon Spotted on Pine Hill Circle

Two raccoons were spotted in Wakefield yesterday - one was injured, and one was deemed rabid.

The following information was supplied by the Wakefield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Featured item: Around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, a resident of Pine Hill Circle reported seeing a rabid raccoon in the area. The animal control officer responded and removed the animal.

Other incidents: 
9:42 a.m. -
A motorist reported accidentally striking a mailbox at the corner of Richardson Avenue and Herbert Street. Police arrived to find the green post-office owned box lying on the ground. The post office was notified.  

11:43 a.m. - A resident reported to police that someone hit her car in the rear parking lot of Brother's Deli and left the scene.

12:25 p.m. - A minor car accident was reported at the corner of Farm Street and Old Nahant Road. No injuries occurred in the crash. 

12:55 p.m. - Police responded to a minor car crash on North Avenue. No injuries were reported.

4:04 p.m. - A caller reported seeing a raccoon that was possibly rabid near the side of his home on Western Avenue. However, the animal control officer determined the animal was injured but not rabid. The animal left the property and entered the woods on its own. 

4:10 p.m. - A group of kids were reported for blocking the entrance to a Main Street drugstore. Police asked the youths to leave the area. 

4:51 p.m. - A man reported to police that he observed a male and a female in a pickup truck cut pipe from the rear of the business adjacent to his home on Cooper Street. Police are investigating. 

5:45 p.m. - A rabid raccoon was reported in the area of Pine Hill Circle. The animal control officer responded. 

8:34 p.m. - Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an Otis Street home. 

8:49 p.m. - Police responded to a home on Quannapowitt Avenue between a mother and a son for a domestic disturbance. However, the son had already left the residence and police made an attempt to search around Lake Quannapowitt to find him. However, he was not able to be located.
