Police Log: Out-Of-Control Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes on Bartley St.

Wakefield Police are investigating a Wakefield woman for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, losing control of her car and hitting a parked car and a stone wall on Bartley Street.

Featured item: A Wakefield woman will be summonsed to court to face drunk driving and negligent driving charges after she lost control of her car on Bartley Street around 8 p.m. on Monday night, hit a parked car and drove up on the sidewalk and into a stone wall, police said. 

Police said the woman, a 47-year-old resident of Bartley Street, was driving a Buick Centry south on Bartley Street when she lost control of the car. Police said she rammed into the side of a 2005 Cadillac that had been parked on Bartley Street, causing damange to the vehicle, then swerved in the other direction and drove up onto the side of the road and hit a low stone wall, causing extensive damage to the undercarriage of her vehicle.

When police arrived, they found the driver to be in a semi-conscious state, they said. They also said they detected an odor of alcohol in the vehicle. The driver was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. She will be summonsed to Malden District Court for operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Other incidents: 
2:39 p.m. - A minor car accident was reported at the corner of North Avenue and Chestnut Street. No injuries were reported.  

6:02 p.m. - Wakefield Police received a call from Mass. State Police that there was an erractic operator who left I-95 and was headed towards North Avenue. Police were able to locate the car and determined no charges would be filed. 

7:15 p.m. - A resident of Eunice Circle reported seeing a rabid racoon in the neighborhood. The Animal Control Officer was notified.
