Police Log: Fist Fight over Money on Broadway Leads to Arrest

Police arrested a Wakefield man for allegedly breaking into an apartment and starting a fight with the resident over money.

Featured item: Wakefield Police arrested Victor Aviles, 17, for allegedly breaking into a neighbor's apartment and starting a fight with the resident.

Police said the victim told them he arrived home around 9 p.m. on Thursday to his Broadway Street apartment to find Aviles inside. The victim said Aviles had kicked in the locked door to gain entry to the apartment. The victim told police he and Aviles began fighting verbally about money, and the fight escalated into a fistfight.

When police arrived, they said they observed two males wrestling at the top of the stairs of the apartment and had to be restrained from one another to stop the fight. The victim was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital with minor injuries. Aviles was charged with assault and battery and breaking and entering into a building out of Malden District Court. 

Other incidents:
10:14 a.m. - A homeowner on Old Colony Drive reported his mailbox had been vandalized overnight.

3:18 p.m. - A two-car accident was reported at the corner of Lowell Street and Vernon Street. No injuries were reported. 

6:07 p.m. - An abandoned bicycle was found in the woods near Strathmore Road. 

6:08 p.m. -  Wakefield Police arrested a Wakefield man on several outstanding warrants. Police said they observed two males exit a Water Street liquor store and enter a Mercedes Benz, the registered owner of which was not 21. Police pulled over the car and determined the passenger in the car, Daniel Ward, 22, of 46 Main St. in Wakefield, had three warrants out of Malden District Court for two counts of negligent operation and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. Ward was taken into custody. 

7:31 p.m. - A caller reported finding keys on the ground on Chestnut Street near Prospect Street. 

9:28 p.m. - A mailbox on Old Colony Drive was reported vandalized.
