Downtown Water Main Break Caused Minor Disruption

A water main break occurred at the corner of Avon Street and Main Street around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

A DPW manager at the scene told Wakefield Patch that water service was disrupted for some nearby customers, but that the break was expected to be fixed by mid-afternoon. Traffic slowed somewhat at times, but generally the break did not cause major disruptions.

On its website, the Beebe Library, located less than a block from the break, reported that it was without water and that its restrooms were unavailable as a result.

Town personnel also opened the fire hydrants in the immediate area onto Main Street as part of the repair work, in part to clear out any debris in the pipes. An 8-inch pipe was reportedly damaged.
