Police Hunt for 2 Suspects in Armed Robbery at Town Variety

The Central Street convenience store was robbed Sunday night by a man with a gun.

Peabody police, state troopers and multiple K-9 units were out searching for two suspects in an armed robbery Sunday night.

A robbery was reported at Town Variety on Central Street just before 9 p.m. Police said the suspects fled in a silver van, bailing from the vehicle and taking off on foot into a building at 86R Endicott St.

The main suspect, a Lynn man, allegedly showed a gun during the robbery. According to scanner reports, officers at the scene Sunday night possibly recovered that weapon outside the building on Endicott Street.

The second suspect is a Peabody man who lives at Esquire Circle and was allegedly driving the van.

State police said one man was wearing a gray or blue sweatshirt and the other was wearing a flannel jacket.

Police combed the surrounding area for both men with assistance from the state police airwing for the better part of two hours, before scaling back efforts to just Peabody officers.

As of approximately 10:30 p.m., state police K-9s and helicopters stood down for the night with no signs of the suspects.

Officers on the ground reported seeing one man around 9:30 p.m. run out from some condos at 129 Lowell St., jump a fence and head into the woods, possibly toward Endicott Street again. Police lost the trail at that point.

Another possible sighting was on Jennifer Lane, following a call from a resident who saw a man running through backyards.

Police continue to search for the suspects.
