Area Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Winthrop man, 40, charged with attempted bank robbery in Wakefield and two bank robberies in Woburn.

The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force has arrested a suspect in Thursday’s attempted bank robbery in downtown Wakefield as well as at least two other bank robberies.

Wakefield Police told this website Friday morning that Winthrop resident Dennis Stack, 40, was arrested Thursday night in Malden. Wakefield Detectives Chris Grace and Jack Ryan reportedly assisted in the investigation.

Around noon on Thursday, the suspect allegedly walked in to the Santander (formerly Sovereign Bank) on Main Street in downtown Wakefield and passed a note to an employee. The note reportedly demanded cash and mentioned a weapon. Wakefield Police confirmed later in the day that no weapon was shown during the incident, and the suspect apparently left that bank with no money.

Later Thursday afternoon, two bank robberies were reported in Woburn. The defendant in this case has reportedly been charged in one of them at this point.  For more about the two bank robberies in Woburn, read the coverage from Woburn Patch.
