John Burbine, the convicted sex offender from Wakefield who is accused of molesting 13 children, was rushed to an area hospital Friday morning, according to Boston.com.

Burbine was awaiting trial in Middlesex County jail when corrections officers discovered that he was in need of “emergency medical attention,” Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian told Boston.com. His condition was not released as of noon Friday.

Burbine and his wife, Marian, are accused of running an illegal daycare. Through the daycare, Burbine allegedly raped and sexually abused 13 children from 2010-2012.

He was arrested in 2012 and faces more than 100 related charges. He and his wife have pleaded not guilty to all charges against them.

In November, Burbine made headlines when, through his attorney, he said he would undergo a castration to significantly reduce his potential sentence.

Burbine’s victims were from Wakefield, Melrose, Newton, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Waltham and Woburn, according to authorities.

Want to thank him for doing the right thing. Hope his wife follows his example.

Burbine's death makes this whole thing even sadder. The amount of suffering this man has inflicted on his victims, their families, and his own family is just, unimaginable. My heart goes out to the families who have been looking forward to their day in court. Their turn to speak out, get a judgement and punishment, then find peace in that has been taken from them. I wish comfort and resolution to all involved.

They would have called 911 but they couldn't find the 11 button on the phone.
