Pick a Pistachio or S'more For Your Summer Treat

You are in for a Real Treat with Pistachio and S’mores

Psst.  I am down here, hiding under the bed.  I can see you perfectly, however, and I am checking you out to see if I want to adopt you.  You thought it was your choice?  Funny human.  We cats do the choosing.  Didn’t you know that?

My name is Pistachio Pistachio and this is my brother S’mores.  We are two very special guys.  Why are we special?  Well there are a few reasons.  First, we are both very handsome in our white coats with grey tiger patches.  I am the slightly bigger, chunkier, and fuzzier guy and S’mores has a slightly smoother coat and more slender body.  We are also special because we are gentle guys.  No hissing or scratching from us.  Finally, we are special, because we need someone (maybe you?) to help us regain our confidence and overcome all the changes we have recently experienced.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were taken from the only home we ever knew.  Now, some cats are a bit more adventuresome and can handle such transitions with more ease.  But, the two of us are strictly homebodies and new things make us nervous, especially without the human who has loved us since birth.  Really, all we need is some time to get to know you and to feel confident that you will be our loving and forever pal.  We have actually made amazing strides since coming to our foster home just a short while ago.  But our foster-lady is a busy woman.  She has kittens and other cats to care for.  We need someone who has more time to focus just on us.

Did I say someone to play with us?  We do love to play.  At night, when it is quiet, we come out and chase anything and everything we see: balls, catnip mice, strings, imaginary hair puffs.  You can see me in my video running after a jingly ball: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWjChBntkIc&feature=player_embedded   S’mores and I are starting to enjoy playing with our foster mom, too.  She dangles a string and we come out and play.  She even got a few chin scratches in before we retreated again to our safe spots under the bed.  Of course, we come right out when she brings our food.  I mean this shy stuff only goes so far.  A cat has to eat.

As shy cats go, we are a dream.  Only ten years young, we are gentle and respond well to food and play. We are healthy and energetic.  We have lived with humans so we just need a new someone who has patience and is willing to lavish us with attention until we become your adoring companion.  In fact, we are exactly the kinds of cats who are the most rewarding to adopt because, once we allow ourselves to love again, the result is a deep and special relationship.  We are just twitching with the desire to be yours, entirely and forever.

Although we are brothers, we are not particularly bonded, so it is not absolutely necessary that we find a home together.  However, it may help us adjust more quickly if we have each other. Or, if there is another feline in your house, we could make a new friend.  So, if you already have a cat that would accept a gentle newcomer or two, we would be good with that.  Or, you could adopt either one of us as your one and only.

If you have questions about adopting cats like us, who need a bit more attention at first, the PAWS adoption team can help.  Most PAWs volunteers have a special cat like me at home and they can share their experiences with you and tell you how we tend to be the favorite of all their cats. (Really, this is true!)

If you love my description but are looking for a female, check out my former female housemates Candy Bar Pie, Crème Brûlée, Cinnamon Bun, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  They are also younger, if that matters.

We are all beautiful and will all be very special and sweet pets for the person or family who really wants to spend time with us.  And did I mention?  You earn your angel wings if you adopt us because we are so special and that knowing us will make you special, too.

To learn more about Pistachio Pistachio or his brother S’mores, or any of our other adoptable cats, kittens, or dogs, contact PAWS at (781) 246-6111 or PAWSwakefield@yahoo.com. You can also meet many of our available pets at our weekly adoption hours: Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital or at the Danvers PetSmart every Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.  Last, but not least, we hold adoption hours at the PETCO in Woburn the first Saturday of every month from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Kitten Season is here and PAWS is having a KITTEN PARTY every Saturday at the VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital.  We are currently taking in many pregnant mothers and abandoned kittens and we really need you to come adopt so we have room for more animals in our foster network.  We also need foster homes, so if you are interested in fostering, please contact PAWs to get more information and an application.  The need is great and you can help now by adopting, fostering, or donating (kitten supplies are much needed and so are the funds to purchase them).

PAWS is an all-volunteer animal welfare organization.  Founded by the late Esther Nowell in 1982, PAWS responds to animal-related needs in many communities north of Boston.  Our top service areas include Wakefield, Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Saugus, Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, and Malden.  Our mission is to promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and foster a greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education.  PAWS receives no local, state or federal funding.  Our budget is completely funded by our membership dues, adoption services, annual fundraising efforts, and kind donations from friends and members.
