PAWS Pets Come in All Different Colors, Sizes, Temperaments, and Ages but They ALL Make Wonderful Pets

Hi my name is Fluff, and I need to talk to you.  Did you know that we cats come to PAWS in many different ways?  You did?  So, you also know that we are all looking for the same thing:  a new home where we can be loved and be safe forever and ever.  Yes, I am currently safe.  But I am not yet in my forever home.  I am at PetSmart in Danvers in the PAWS adoption center.  And, I don’t like it here.  No I do not, not one bit.  In fact, while I am a sweet girl, if you come to my window I may hiss at you because I’m so grumpy about being here. I just want you to know that it is not because I don’t like people.  I am really a very loving cat.  But, more about me later.  Right now, I want to tell you that PetSmart Charities is hosting their Fall National Adoption Weekend on September 13th-15th. Over 5 million pets have been placed since this event started and my beloved rescuers, PAWS Wakefield, will be participating at the Danvers PetSmart location on Route 114.  I think you should stop in and to visit us.  You might even decide to adopt me while you are at it.

So, let me tell you a bit more about why we need to find new homes and how PAWS helps us.  Some of us come to PAWS because a kind person notices a lost or abandoned kitty in the back yard and asks PAWS to help. When that happens, the first thing PAWS does is attempt to locate our owner by advertising in papers and putting up flyers near where we are found.  They also check the various lists of local cats whose owners are looking for them.  If there is no response, we visit the vet for a clean bill of health, and then we are ready to search for our new human companions.

That is what happened with my friend Gardenia, a beautiful, petite, three-year-old black, grey and tawny Maine coon cat. When she was found, she was skinny and matted.  You should see her now.  Gardenia is back to her beautiful, fluffy self.  She is currently enjoying her top perch at PetSmart where she can safely watch for her perfect person while not having to deal so much with the other cats. You see, Gardenia is not really comfortable with other felines, but she does welcome human attention and a good chin scratch. She also loves her treats, especially the goop for hairballs, which she licks right off our volunteers’ fingers.  If you ask me, I think Gardenia would do best as a solo pet in a quiet home where she can relax and devote her affections to her adoptive people.

By the way, Gardenia told me to tell you that all PAWS adoptees are micro-chipped.  She is so relieved to know that, should she ever accidently get lost again, her microchip will help to reunite her with her family.  Since all vets are equipped with scanners that read the chips, they can easily find the contact information assigned to our chips and get us back to our loving homes.

OK, so now it’s my turn and my story is very different.  I came to PAWS because my human was too ill to care for me and my children.  It was sad and upsetting because we loved him and he loved us.  But it also means that we are people-loving animals who were well raised.  In fact, my thirteen-year-old daughter has already been adopted.  I think people have over-looked me because I am fifteen.  But, I am a very healthy cat who takes no medications and still loves to play with anything you dangle my way.  I also love to chase the laser light.  Of course, my favorite thing is to loll in a nice sun beam and nap the day away.  Yes, I have many good years to share with you if you want a gentle and calm companion who will not tangle herself in your feet or climb your curtains like those nutty kittens do.  So, don’t be put off if I hiss when we first meet.  I’m just trying to tell you how much I really want to get out of here and into a real home where I can be your special girl.

Before I finish up here, I want to tell you about two more of my PAWS friends, Portabella and Truffles, who are available for adoption.  They were left in a carrier at the doorstep of a one our vet friends. This is not the best way to surrender a cat to PAWS!  It is much better to contact us directly and let us help you.  It also helps your animals as we can get information about them from you and learn about their vetting histories.

Fortunately Portabella and Truffles were young, healthy, kitties and PAWS had room to bring them to PetSmart to join all of us for the big adoption weekend!  Wait until you see them.  They are gorgeous, two-year-old tabbies.  Truffles loves people and will roll over and let you rub her white tummy.  You will probably find Portabella sticking her paw out the cage to get your attention: “Hey, let us out so we can play!”  She chases balls from one end of the room to the other and will rear up to get those dangly toys out of reach. Portabella will fiercely grab the catnip carrot and kick it into submission and then stop and let you pick her up and carry her around the room.  Even a middle-aged lady like me finds their antics irresistible.  I’m sure there is a family out there looking for two playful tiger cats to love.

I hope you now know a bit more about PAWS and us and how we got here.  And I really hope you can drop by during our adoption hours so we can tell you how you can help get us out of here!  And, in honor of this special adoption weekend, many of the foster home pets are joining us.  You don’t want to miss the chance to meet the many colors, sizes and personalities of the PAWS pets.  In fact, if we are lucky, Flower Child, our big yellow lab friend, will be here, too.  We are all ready to swish our tails, tell our tales and wiggle our way into your heart.  See you soon.  And please, pick me!  I really, really, want to go to a home of my own.
