Candi is a Sweet Treat for You

Candy is a Very Special Cat for a Lucky Adopter

Candy Bar Pie.  That is my full name.  It is a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor that is peanut butter fudge, chocolate nougat, sweet and salty swirls.  I need to admit I have no clue what ice cream is.  I heard them talking about it.  All I can say is I am a sweet girl, never salty.  But my short-haired calico coat of white, dark grey and peach does seem to look a bit like that picture that I found on B&J’s website.  (Not that I go on my foster’s computer while she is out…at least, not too often).

Anyway, I don’t really care what you call me.  I am a very sweet, gentle and low-key feline.  I will just be happy to have you scratch me under the chin and around my face.  That is my greatest joy.  That, and having a nice meal of wet cat food.  I am not picky, but I do prefer chunky bites to paté.  These days, I am so busy learning to be a pampered pet that my wants are few and far between.  Everything gives me joy and a makes me pause to take it in.

I am about six years old and I am finally finding myself in a home where there is plenty of love and attention. Of course, I have always been loved, but I previously had to share my human with lots of other cats.  I am really enjoying the personal treatment I’m getting in my foster home. Every day is a new adventure and wonder to me.  I appreciate it all and I am learning a lot.

If you have experience with cats like me who are docile and submissive, you know how special we are.  Yes, we do worry about everything that is new, but we are also relieved and happy to have a forever home.  We develop very deep and very special relationships with the people who have the patience to let us open up and flourish like new flowers in the spring time.  Myself, I am gentle and sweet, if a bit bewildered by it all.  I will never scratch or bite.  That is just not my personality.  I would never hurt a soul.

So, do you want to know what it is like in my PAWS foster home?  Well, now that I’ve had a little time to adjust to my new surroundings, I am reaching out for more contact with my foster parents.  At night, when they sleep, I like to explore their feet and I am thinking that one day soon I will nestle there with them.  I love to lie on my back with all four paws in the air.  They think this is funny, but I am just relaxing and feeling happy.  And I love, love, when they touch me on my face.  I don’t run away at all.  I just wait for them to come to me and give me all the love I am learning I deserve.

I think I would love if you had another gentle cat in the house, as I am used to being around other cats.  Or, maybe you would consider adopting one of my former housemates along with me? Some cats you might ask about are Crème Brulé (a calico), Cinnamon Bun (grey and white), Chunky Monkey (tortie), and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (tabby tiger).  I would certainly enjoy the company of any friendly and accepting cat I could run around and play with.  But I’ll have to admit, I am enjoying the attention I get as an only kitty. I don’t care if you are a one-person or two-person household, or if you have lots of children.  I will take it all in, figure you out, and begin my new life with you.

Well, that is me: Candy, a special cat looking for a special adopter with heart that is at least as big as mine.  So, if you are gentle and loving, and longing for a feline/human bond that will last a lifetime, I think we need to meet.

To learn more about Candy, her former housemates, or any of our other adoptable cats, kittens, or dogs, contact PAWS at (781) 246-6111 or PAWSwakefield@yahoo.com. You can also meet many of our available pets at our weekly adoption hours: Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital or at the Danvers PetSmart every Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.  Last, but not least, we hold adoption hours at the PETCO in Woburn the first Saturday of every month from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Kitten Season is here and PAWS is having a KITTEN PARTY every Saturday at the VCA Wakefield Animal Hospital.  We are currently taking in many pregnant mothers and abandoned kittens and we really need you to come adopt so we have room for more animals in our foster network.  We also need foster homes, so if you are interested in fostering, please contact PAWs to get more information and an application.  The need is great and you can help now by adopting, fostering, or donating (kitten supplies are much needed and so are the funds to purchase them).

PAWS is an all-volunteer animal welfare organization.  Founded by the late Esther Nowell in 1982, PAWS responds to animal-related needs in many communities north of Boston.  Our top service areas include Wakefield, Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Saugus, Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester, and Malden.  Our mission is to promote and protect the rights and well-being of all domestic animals and wildlife, and foster a greater understanding of animal welfare and animal rights through education.  PAWS receives no local, state or federal funding.  Our budget is completely funded by our membership dues, adoption services, annual fundraising efforts, and kind donations from friends and members.
